Discussion 17 - 1/12/09

Thanks for logging in!

So this time of year is special to gadgets geeks (like me and Ray) because it's time for the Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas. This is a multi-day show that HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of people go to in order to see the very newest in electronics technology for consumers. Wanna see the new games coming out this year? Guess where they're debuted? Wanna see the newest cell phones for the coming year? Yep, CES. Guess where the VCR was debuted? DVD player? Laptops? All that stuff was first shown to the world at CES. This is THE mecca for geeks.

This year has been no exception. There are new 3-D televisions! There are new Palm cell phones! Laptops that are only 8 inches (sublaptops)!

My personal favorites were the bigscreen plasma TV that's only 1 inch thick and the Polaroid digital camera that prints out instantly (replacing your parents old Polaroid Instamatics).

Check out the following stuff that's been introduced this year. Don't stop on page 1 . . . there are 4 pages. Pick something and give us an opinion.

Talk to me . . .

The Palm Pre, I want, I havn't decided if I want it over the iPhone but it's pretty close. It has a whole new OS called "WebOS" and I have to say it looks pretty cool.

The touchstone is really cool, you just set the palm pre on it to charge, wireless and if you get a call pick the Pre up and it answers the phone, or if you don't feel like picking it up, just press answer and it will put it on speaker.

the OS in action is pretty cool, and all the features are pretty interesting. I would actually consider getting this phone

I don't care, they really didn't talk about this much.. but I thought the Ipod BoomBoxes were so trippy to me.. I hate the colors, but hey whatever. the CES editors said that they would make in 2009, but I thought they're trippy. The image for boomboxes, are on page 2, at the top, in kindergarden colors: baby blue, canary yellow, and firetruck red.

I liked the Acoustic Research ARIR200 because,it has the ability to record internet programs that, you would want to record. And it also has an ipod holder to download items on your ipod.

For instance sony's new XV5oo series features a new back-illuminated sensor and geotagging caoability while panasonic more widely rolled out its 3 mos three-chip system. Canon took the most typical route, going with a higher resolution sensor and better lens. Casio delivered the most novel entries with sleek ultracompact cameras that integrate the high-speed shooting capabilities of its clunky Ex-f1 and Ex-fh20 megazoom models.

CES 2009 wrap-up: Portable audio and video
this is a good MP3 would buy it if i didn't have an MP3 but i have 2 mp3, but i like this idea and i also like Intel unveils tablet Classmate PC design because it seems really cool and i know that for now is expensive but those are the future of the MP3 and LAPTOP i like those two ideas. i think that the touch screens for the mp3 are not that good like for the other stuff. and the laptop is a good idea to spin the screen so you can show to everybody without moving the WHOLE laptop.

For starters...I LOVE that polariod!! I think that is an absoloutely great idea. Eepecially for those of us who remember the older version. The second standout gadget, to me, was the Palm Pre. Even though Im a devoted Blackberry owner.

Hollingsworth,C-1 said...

The little projector is nifty. Soooo when your not showing the world your vacation photos it can be stored in your desk....i don't know...I just think its cool

Every year CES comes and goes leaving us with cool gadgets that are unnecessary.

Take the 3D monitor for example. I hate that 3D stuff because it always cause me naussia and make me sick. I can't look through a red and blue pair of glasses. I don't know who's coming up with these pointless ideas but I would like to meet them so I can give them a pice of my mind.

Only thing I did like was the remakes of the old video game systems. Now today's gamers (if they have the games) can play the great games of the late 80's/early 90's

Sennheiser's awesome--and rather expensive--HD 800 headphones $1,400. I would LOVE to get some of these, it would be like haveing a gangsters stario system x2...in your ears. omg i would give a...foot for that headset.

The nokia phone made from recycle bottles was the coolest or one the coolest phone at CES 2009. And it doesn't feel like a recycle product.

I like the Palm Pre, I'm not really into iphones but that one I like my opinion is that it would be easy to use for me because most iphone I find complicated to text on but that one has a side out keyboard which is cool.

Baker,M-1 said...

One look and I found my true love. In a set of headphones. Sennheiser's new HD 800 headphones had me at first sight. I hurriedly looked down to read more and got a big ole smack in the face. Was that even a number. Worse, I would really pay the whooping $1,400 to have those Be-A-utiful headphones. Dang I am so weak 8P

I would love to have the Polariod PoGo camera, and the Palm Pre looks like a cool thing to have.

The '80s-throwback iPod boomboxes are a cute idea! It goes cute with Converses and piano ties.
And the projector that fits in your pocket is not a good idea because anyone can steal it by putting it in their pocket.
I'm not really a cell phone person because I love the phone I have now (A Slider)but the The Palm Pre is pretty cool.

brittain,w-2 said...

i like the Palm Pre because it gives u ways to organize all your stuff that is in the phone

packard,a-2 said...

i like the SDR-H20 panasonic camcorder!!! it has a 70x optical zoom! i cant get the moon to record at my house because it only has a 4x optical zoom so this would be very helpfull!! and it is small and light which will help my arm from falling off holding my mom's 10lb. camcorder!!! i also love to film wildlife and my camcorder does not offer the stability control as well as this one or the zoom, and they said it was really good for animal recording!!! i love it!! i will buy it!!! ok maybe not but i will dream i am buying it!!

allensworth, z-2 said...

none of this new gadgetry seems new to me just more expensive cell phones that hold more music and look cooler all i see is a change in the look not in the technology so i'm picking one of those cell phones and saying that i want the, not yet released, sony ericsson W508, i need a new phone anyways and this one has a simple basic design yet it comes with all the new spiffy stuff

I kinda saw some of CES on TV over the weekend and I saw three really cool things first was this thing you set any eletronic device on and it charges it... the coolest part was that you could wire it into your kichen counter in stuff, even into the walls. The other thing I saw was a TV that you didnt need a controller for, you just move your hands and it does stuff for you... like mickey mouse. Then the last thing was for people who smoked... it was something to help you stop. It was a eletronic cigarette that looks just like a normal cigarette but it doesnt hurt you... its actually just flavored... it looked cool on TV.

One of the most interesting things is the Pocket Sized Projector. It supports USB and supposedly has good color quality! The screen can be taken up to 80 inches, perfect for games or if used as an alterate monitor for a PC.

I use to go to CES every year but I had to miss out this year due to lack of funds. But what I saw on the website it looked just as fun as allways. I love the Flightstick for the Xbox 360 and PS3 also the 1 inch thick plasma TV was pretty cool also.

Auxier, Emily - 4 said...

I looked at tons of pages and still the one thing that i loved was in the first few of them! since i love to take pictures and make creative things (scrapbooks,collages,..) a camera that prints out pictures automatically would be make the projects so much more easier. I wouldnt have to go to walmart and wait in a line behind 3 people who have NOT a clue how to use the dang machine (though its very simple and easy to use..how har is it to push a button?) So yah to sum it all up - Mrs. L - do you want to buy me one since i am your favorite student in all =) I wont ever complain about austin again! I promise! -Emily

I agree with zack on this. None of this is new stuff it just seems more sleek and holds more. One thing did catch my eye though, the Memorex MP3 Player. Its only $99 and holds 8GB which is more then enough for me.

wallace,c-6 said...

the Classmate PC looks pretty cool. i like how u can fold it up, and basically just its physical appearance. i cant say that ive seen a lap top with a screen that can fold down like that

Abdul-786 said...

i like that cool digital camera it looks great and i hope its as good as they have sayed.

and tvs are good too.

Bixler,T-6 said...

I like every thing that was showed but I really like the wireless subwoffers. I really think that peolpe are becoming to crazy over technology instead of geting the economy out of debt.

i liked the HP mini laptop because its space efficient and HP products are typically useful. although because of its size, the durability of the product comes into question, and i dont care if everyone says its really durable i have to find out for myself

For a person like me who doesnt check the latest gadgets as they are introduced this page has the latest coverage in that. Of course Mrs L. that i agree with you concerning the 1 inch plasma tv!!!.after seeing it..

Ok so i think the remote that responds to ur voice is the coolest thing ever. It would totally stop the fight between me and my dad about who lost the remote, because it wouldnt matter anymore I could just yell "Turn it up" instead of ripping my couch apart looking for the remote

the projector that fits in your pocket i think is a good idea to be able to put a screen on a wall that is 80 inches and you can hook it up to digital cameras, smartphones, etc i think that is a big push from BenQ

Polaroid PoGo camera is prety awsome thing...you get to save the time and money of goin to walmart or wallgreens and print them!!!
-so this camera is pretty cool!! I Think am goin to get one!!

tutt,matthew said...

the polaroid pogo is the coolest digital camera ever. it is to me a mix of new and old school tech with a digital view of your picture and a photo printer so you can have instant memories.

i like the netbook that twists around so you can lay it on the table like a note book. thats just so interesting to me.

och,s-4 said...

I know you mentioned it in the main blog, but out of all the things I saw, the Poloroid digital camera is my favorite. I love the old fashioned poloroid cameras and it's cool that they made a digital version of it. I would - and probably will eventually - get one. Very neat.

allensworth, d4 said...

i think the kodak camera that looks like a phone is pretty darn schnazzy....its compact like a cell phone but delivers quality shots and film....plus, if i got caught with my phone in school then i could say its just my camera and pull it out real quick

Rigsby,D-1 said...

If i had to pick any phone i would pick the HTC Touch Diamond. Its not as good as the Palm Pre. But it pretty good phone with a very good touch system. If i do go with the HTC phone it would cost me $528.45 - $699.99!!!!!!!

i like the home audio wrap up because it is wireless , i hate all the wireing, and it stands verticaly thats good because it doesnt take up much space on a small room

Liles, T-1 said...

YES! Finally something of use to me, i thank god for all the custom and various expensive items the previous owner of my truck put in, but still he failed to leave behind the one thing that really matters, his speaker system, so now my truck has really old crappy speakers that have been sitting in his shed for god knows how long, but the Alpine Amplification System would be perfect for increasing the volume and clairity of the old things.

robles,l-3 said...

The projector that fits in your back pockets is a small thing that fits in your hand. The touchstone is a cool thing that fits in most peoples every day use. The boom boxes were so funny to look at but they are cool the colors were not cool but I would not mind getting one.

Gonzalez, C-1 said...

It all seems really cool and all but...it just seems to be missing something. Theres like no passion in these creations, no feel. I felt like I was looking at some catalog in the store or something. Its not like I haven't seen a tv or anything. It just seemed so dull to me, so lifeless. It was all cool but it didn't really appeal all that much. The nokia phone made from recycling bottles was not bad though. It atleast shows that we are trying to make a difference at the least. Blarg.

the palm pre is cool. i like the touch screen and the keyboard and the way it slides up. the phone is really cool. i would pick this over the iphone.

edlin said...

Well the one that got my attention was the Blaupunkt and miRoamer i think that is cool because i do not have to listen to the same CD'S over and over again and i get more choices in the internet.

Gonzalez, C-1 said...

All of the stuff that was shown, I just don't know. It all seemed so lifeless, so dull. Its like stuff that I've already seen, its those things like other people haven't done before. It felt like there was no passion in these creations, no creativity. Everything appeared to me like it was an ordinary tv or camcorder, just with some new-fangled tweak or feature that is barely noticeable. I don't know. The nokia phone made recycling bottles was pretty neat though. It atleast shows we are trying to be environmentally friendly.

i really like the Samsung monitor designed for the labtop, i would kill to have that for my room, the cost of it isnt that bad either so thats one thing ill have in mind later on this year, and i really liked the Viewsonic because you could watch or play games in 3D and that would be the coolest thing to see. that the other monitor i would get.

Cesar . . . An interesting theory. No passion in the designs. Hmmmm. Kinda goes hand in hand with next week's blog about tech and spirituality.

Michael (That Guy) . . . I agree. I want to know more about that Polaroid too, just out of curiosity.

I thought the boomboxes were cool too, but didn't really agree with the designer's choice of colors (which Chanel and Luis also said).

i think its a preety cool software and i just download it on my computer at my house but still trying to figure out how to go under water but oh well i don't know if they ever will be able to find the lost city of atlantas there are like 50 50 chances.
