Discussion 19 - 1/26/09

Hola Peeps! Thanks for logging in . . .

This week let's look at presidential inauguration technology. The first link is to a Wired article about how technology has changed inaugurations over the years.

The second link is to a dVice article about bulletproof clothing. I'm not really sure how much I believe this one. I would need to see some video of the clothing being tested to believe it.

The third link is to an article about the presidential Cadillac limo and how it has been retro-fitted to make it the safest presidential limo ever built.

Please take a look at ALL of the articles, don't just stop at one. Give me an opinion about something on one of the articles.

Talk to me . . .

ive heard about the bullet proof clothing before, a cop i cant remember where designed it and has been saved like 3 time because of it. he accually tests it himself by having his son shoot him.and the limo is probably the best protected vehicle ever.

Calderon,A-1 said...

The Cadillac is really protected and all the technology make it perfect to the president to be safe. specially the glass.
the second article might be a good idea but all the snipers will not shoot at the body if they know that they are wearing bullet proof clothes.
all the inaugurations changed because the technology and the time (i mean the year) that is why all the inaugurations change every time a little bit.

Yeah, that bullet proof suit, high buissness men and people like scarface wear it. And the car, they can tell you evry thing about it, but your still not getting in. Haha i Bet the limo get like 1 mile to the gallon. and can only go like 40 mph.

THROW SOME D'S ON IT!!!!!!

That Cadilac Limo sounds pretty schweet. Even though they keep the best things about it confidential.

Oh, and I think the bullet proof clothing is pretty rad too. I would wear it and go somewhere I knew I would get shot. Which would be.... ?

I like the 2009 cadillac it smooth on the road, and also its made to protect our great, and intelligent president "Barack Obama".

Barack Obama inauguration Tuesday is the nation's 56th not counting nine imprompt swearings in when a president died or resigned.

Gilbreath,J-1 said...

Bulletproof presidential helmet?...That's...That's strange...Now, every time I see Obama on screen, I'm gonna imagine him as Master Chief...

Other than that, it's sad how they take so many steps to protect our new president, yet have the guts to show everyone watching the inside of an FBI van, as well as the locations of a few snipers. Nice job, guys.

So wait, the car's bullet/bomb/grenade proof? Are you serious?!

Cole,R-1 said...

The use of technology to spead news is incredible Twitter gives anyone a chance to get what they are seeing or whatever they want online in seconds (it all depends on how fast you can type on your device).

The bullet proof clothing is pretty cool, I still wouldn't want to be shot, but if they keep improving on this type of stuff it would be cool.

The Car, the car is cool and all but i just hope/wish he doesn't need all the protection

at least he got to keep his phone, sorta

lathan,l-1 said...

Thats nice to see whats about to happend. All of the presidents, mean well because they accomplished some stuff in life. we all have a seen alot of changes. with the knew things happening.

Tri-Edge said...

A bullet proof suit that doesn't require think padding to wear it. Where do I get one of these? Still I'm skeptical that this suit could actually stop a bullet. I mean sure if it could stop a bullet then good job but it only covers the body and not the head. That is still a problem...unless he is wearing a invisable bullet proof mask.

At this point im really wondering if in fact it is possible to assasinate the president with his bullet ressistant clothing, bullet proof glass durring the inaguration, and his Tank-Caddy. Not to mention the 24/7 secret service. But in this case i dont believe their is such thing as too much security.

Broadway,M-1 said...

I think the Cadillac Presidential Limousine is problemly the best ride in the world , and do i sign up to get i. cuz u know that the president get the best of every thing.

rodriguez,stephen-1 said...

President Obama was as cool as rain during his inauguration, Now i know why.His clothes was bullet proof! I'm kind of freaked out about this because i've never heard of this at all(except in like cartoons and comic books)and now that its real, i dont know wiether to be scared or excited.... Scared because now criminals can buy it and run crazy with it now. but i'm excited cuz now i can save money to buy it first and be like safe!

reed, k - 2 said...

My opinion about the president in all this protective gear is that I think that is a save thing to do because you don't know what people now days might do there have been many presidents that have been assassinated and not many people approvel of Obama.

Baker,M-1 said...

Okay < I couldn't check out the twitter thing so I will talk about the "bullet resistant clothing" I'm sorry but I am a bit skeptical about that. If I went upo and shot sobody who was wearing "bullet resistant clothing" would the bullet just bounce off? What about a high powered sniper rifle? The bullet would just bounce off? I don't think so.

Johnson,O-2 said...

Just wondering: Who makes the Pope-mobile? Is that Cadillac too? Cuz it kinda look like it in the front or so far that i can remember. I mean Cadillacs do drive smooth and it has a nice safty ratingso I guess its a nice choice

packard,a-2 said...

The cadillac is really nice sounding and it will protect the president and his family from haters. this was probably a big pain in the butt to make and the secret service, especially since they had to re build it to ensure safety! but, it was a little much!! i hope they arent planing to lift that thing!!

robles,l-3 said...

The Cadillac is really protected and all the technology make it perfect to the president to be rolling down the streets.
Also Obama was wearing a bullet proof clothing so that he could fell safe.I dont thing that it will protect him that much.
I was loking at the cadillac and it was nice and clean and one of the safes cars build. I wich i would have one

Hernandez, Ruben 3rd said...

i think that the ride its so awesome its cool.... I wish i had one of those...the bullet proof thing i dont know...the new technology its cool because without it we couldn't listen to him speak or watch him.

anderson,p-3 said...

first black president rides in a cadillac huh pretty funny dont you think. it was really cool looks like something you see in cartoons. i wont believe those clothes were bulletproof time i see it cause it looked like a regular suit and tie to me.

otis,j-3 said...

The bullet proof clothing really isnt bullet proof. It most likely only protects the user from small calibre rounds(9mm and under). Not even the glass could really protect someone from a dedicated sniper with a 50cal. or bigger. Also, the clothing doesnt protect the head, still leaving a substantial amount of president out in the open. I guess all you really can do is gear up and hope nothing goes wrong.

cruz,raymond,a-class3 said...

i think the limo is freaken awsome, even though its kind of funny that its a cadillac and our president is black, but its all good. its really cool how safe it is to,and now that hes also wearing the bullet proof vest, obama has it made with protection.

Patton,A-1 said...

i really cant believe that the clothes obama was wearing were bullet proof.they just dont look believeable.i would need to see a demonstration to know that it works. the cadillac is cool though. it seems really protective

i've heard the president of the united states long age. Everyone force to someone making the president of the united states

Brice, R-4 said...

I love the way they made the new presidential limo. Since they combined diffrent parts of different cadillacs it looks very unique which is cool.

Auxier, Emily - 4 said...

Honestly I am not suprised that there is bullet proof clothing now. If im suprised at all - its at the fact that they didnt come up with this earlier. You have to do what you have to do to keep inoccent people safe then more power to them =) But i do wonder.. how comfterable is the clothing and is it heavy?

taylor, Q - 6 said...

ok the bullet proof car, clothing, and everything else was all necessary. They were really tring to make sure he was safe, which he needed it all. This inauguration was over the top & they grow in technology every time...this makes me really wonder what the next one will be like.

Sauceda, Maria=]- 6 said...

When our own president has to wear bullet proof clothing to his inauguration ceremony it shows that the country is having a difficult time controling attacks and the security... but other than that its pretty cool to hav dressy clothing...
Anyways the cadillac limousine is AWESOME!!!..=D

Copeland, Juston7 said...

i think that the new cadillac limosuine is cool but i cant wonder what would happen if it got in the wrong hands cuz they said it is like a tank but it looks really nice

arnold,t.7 said...

i like the cadillic it is really cool that the president had to ride in. and the bullet proof i heard of that alots of time that some people wear that when they get shoot that it help them out to be alive. and i am happy of that.

It's amazing what tecnology can do for our fellow President. Bullet proof clothes and the safest Cadillac ever? That's awesome.
But more than that, the tecnology we have to spread the anouncement everywhere is far better than we used to have back in the day, no? Incredible, truely incredible what has occured over the years.

cano,ruben-7 said...

This Cadillac is of the wall...wow is like a tank and is pretty safe. I think that the president should be protected and be safe because with great power comes great responsability!!!!!!!!!!

mcgown,a-1 said...

ok. Bullet proof clothing? really? I would have to see it to believe it. Im not saying its not possible. Ok well the Cadilac Limo is really cool. Im very impressed with its armored features. Lastly, of all the inagurations I believe this one is the most unique.

arriola,brett-1 said...

i like the cadillac limo its really protected and tis perfect for the president.

mayfield,s-1 said...

The Cadillac is very protective...and the bullet proof clothes are kind of over protective, but if I could have it, I would get it.

brittain,w-2 said...

i thought the bullet-proof clothing was pretty cool, even though it has a defect. it only protects you from being shot when you are in your clothes, you could still die if someone shot you in the head or something.

also the Presidential Cadillac's were pretty good. they kept getting improved over the years as new presidents rode them in the inaugaration. the Presidential Cadillac for Obama was really good. they tested it and took security measures even after the tests proved that the car was safe, but you can never have too many security measures

Dietrich,R-3 said...

The presidents car doesnt look like it has that much armor.... but i would enjoy to see how it holds against a tank.

Abdul-786 said...

i like the 1 st and second article better i think bullet proof clothing is really important for obama and the technology is for inagurataion is pretty cool too!!!

Meredith,B-6 said...

I think the bulletproof clothing is pretty cool because people can have normal looking clothing made from it instead of having to wear bulky kevlar vests......now as for the limo that thing is just crazy protected i mean come on a door that ways as much as an aircrafts jesus!

Cuarenta,A-6 said...

well its pretty sad that there HAVE to be soooo many precautions for the president... but i think the cadillac limo is a GOOOOD idea its got style and it protects at the same time....

Byrd,N-6 said...

I would love to have the bullet proof clothing, because i think its the next best thing since sliced bread. Now you can walk around and not have to worry about catching 9 bullets like 50 cent, and their easy to conceal so you can be fashionable too

Jones,C-1 said...

The bullet proof clothing is really awesome. Im sure that many public figures wear it besides this one instance. And the tank...i mean limo is pretty cool too.

Rigsby,D-1 said...

Tank cars,bullet-resistant vest. Dude i think i need that every day i walk down the road. But on a real note i dont really think he needed to go that far with. I think he have more people on his side angist him. So right now i think he is in good hands.

Hollingsworth,C-1 said...

I saw a show on bush's car. They wouldn't answer anything about it. So i bet that they'll treat Obama's the same way. This means we wont have news specials showing behind the scenes footage of Obamas Cadillac for the crazy terrorist to use to there advantage...because the news has never shown behind the scenes footage that should have been keep behind the scenes…

i'll have to agree with my boy brice on this one the fancy presidental car is the spiffiest, the bullet proof would have surpassed it, but i just don't believe it, but the extent they go to to make the car inpenatrable is pretty intense and very cool

Gonzalez, C-1 said...

That Cadillac is pretty sweet. Not only do you travel in style, you travel safely as well. I can only imagine what it would have on the inside. That gets me thinkin. Would they mod that car so that it could have rockets shoot out from the head lights like the James Bond cars and stuff. That would be sweet. What about anti-theft? Does it have like an alarm or something. I didn't see anything about that. I wonder if it shocks you if you touch it. I like that car, makes me wonder what will the ingenuity of man do next. DARTH VADER TOASTER WOOHOO!!

tutt,matthew said...

I've herd of the bullet proof clothing and limo and i've seen documenteries over both. If you ever wondered if the clothing is real, it is. The suit is made like a bullet prof vest except without plates.

Lanham said...

LOL @ Ashley!

Agustin I also thought it was interesting to see how technology has changed the inaugurations over the years.

Chase . . . Scarface? Really? Is the line between reality and fiction becoming blurred for you? LOL

Jacob G. . . . I *SO* agree with you about showing the locations of his security. I know we have to be the only nation in the world willing to give up those secrets!

Ray . . . do you twitter? I figured if I knew anyone who would be twittering it would be you!

Jose . . . I think it was originally designed in Columbia.

Olivia . . . that article made me wonder who makes the Popemobile too. Do some research on that, wouldya?

Byrd . . . if you're worried about walking around and catching 9mm bullets we might need to talk about your choice of lifestyle!

Brad . . . we're not texting here. Use *real* words.

Oh and PS to all of ya . . . I think that limo is REAL ugly. And can you imagine how little gas mileage it gets?

GARRETT,K-4 said...

the bullet proof suit is tha best thing since sliced cheese! the limo seems nice but i dont know bout the part with the bomb not doing any damage.....but it could be possible.

edwards, a - 4 said...

I'm glad now that they improved their securities throughout the presidental eras, and I'm so relieved that they gave Obama bullet-proof clothing. We really don't want another assasination over something really stupid, like the JFK assassination in the 60s. I'm liking the cadillac too. I really don't know why Obama's security guards called it a "Monster." I think it's a very classy car.

och,s-4 said...

I JUST HAD MY WHOLE THING TYPED BEFORE IT MALFUNCTIONED!!!! THAT STINKS!!

Anyway, what I had said is that it was very high tech to sew Obama's bulletproof gear into his clothes.

Also, I found these things amusing about the Inaugural Tech...

1) James Polk's address was "widely" spread thanks to Morse Code.

2) William McKinley's in moving pictures.

3) JFK's parade = first on color television.

4) And of course...how strange that Obama's inauguration was twittered...hehe.

allensworth, d4 said...

i think the fact that the secret service has to take apart the limo to make sure nothing was "compromised" is pretty dumb.... the guys arent mechanics and might "compromise" something when putting it back together

Bixler,T-6 said...

The cadallaic is very protective for the president but why make it only protective from 9 mm. T he president is more likely tho be shot before getting in the car. Th e suit is awsome to have it is very great that they made that it is very cool.

Maness, J-6 said...

It is simply revolutionary that bullet proof clothing has been made. it says it resists 9mm, but i'm curious about another bullet, because odds are if someone's going to try to assassinate him, it won't be a 9mm, especially if they've heard about the clothing. But regardless, i don't imagine Obama will need to worry about any attempts since he has such awesome security.

Trikosko, M-1 said...

That bullet proof suit is neat, I never knew that we had the technology today to make any ammout of bullet resistant material that thin. I heard that the door on that limo weighed as much as a humvee's door, just goes to show how strong it is.

Lanham said...

Yall must be hungry this week. I got a sliced bread comment *and* a sliced cheese comment! LOL

Michael . . . the door of that beasty Caddy weighs as much as the door of a 737. I got that info off of some other article that I read a couple weeks ago before the car was unveiled at the Inauguration.

Cole,R-1 said...

Yea, I Twitter, just not anything important as say the Inauguration, but I do twitter.

chanelectronic said...

so i choose to talk about the cadiallac - because its so controversial right now especially since its all in the news about how far out President Obama is going for security. (How ridiculous is the news to talk about how the President keeps his security?) Anyway - I thought it was a really outlandish as to how much money is put to protect one person. Why isn't the same amount of money used to secure school buses for children?
