Can yall take one more week of car stuff? Stay with me Ashley . . . LOL
I ran across this article on flying cars. Remember George Jetson? Or is he before yall's time? Anyway, it has been predicted for a very long time that future travel would take place in the air. I'm not sure how I feel about that. What kind of specialized training will we have to have? How expensive will the cars be? Also, if you make a mistake when you're driving in the air the penalty is pretty much death. No more tiny little fender benders from which we all learn. Just BAM . . . game over.I think I'll stay on the ground, thanks.Anyway, check out this story:

Give me an opinion.

Flying cars may exist, but they will not be the main source of transportation for a very long time. First off, they sky is already congested with air planes that are traveling different routes from multiple airlines. There is not going to be any airspace for millions of people to be flying around. I may be wrong though so if so let me know.
FLYING CARS?
i dont like this idea beacuse it might be so hard to land (if you are a beginer) but it might be so cool to have it, but just look at the traffic on the road. it might be the same traffic in air with those cars? how hard it might be to get your license?
i dont really like the idea of that cars it might be even more dangerous.
Flying cars...You see those alot. Whether you're playing GTA and used the floating car cheat, or when you're playing Halo and throw grenades at your Warthog, thus achieving the capability of 'flying' car, flying cars tend to mostly come in the video game variety.
Then, you've got films, such as that one with the title I can't remember, with the red-headed woman alien and the flying cars all over the place.
Any way you look at it, flying cars have always been unachievable in the real world. Still, if they can give you a car that flies, or at least hovers/glides, with some sort of mechanism that allows for the early avoidance of other drivers...or fliers...whatever...
To sum it up:
Flying cars, travel of the future *cough cough*.
my opinion is that flying cars will not be as popular as people think.just to get a license for this will take about four times longer than a regular license.and purchase and repair for one of these things will not be very cheap. what about accidents first you crash in the sky then you drop a couple hundred feet into your death.
I think it wont be in mass production. If it has wont before then it probably wont work now. And the other "Flying Cars" makers did have sucess. Second it doesn't look like a very nice car either. It looks like a little beetle.
Flying cars have been talked about for years now and they're always pushed back on release. I think we have enough idiots driving cars, just imagine one of them flying around in the sky and doing some idiotic little trick and crashing into your house. Not very appealing. It even says "..trips from Boston to places like Nantucket or New York would be viable, but anything farther may not be worth it."
If it was something along the lines of getting from Texas to New York, which is basically a day and a half trip in a car, and it changed to a few hours, I can see wanting one. But for only a place that you could drive about four hours to get to, that's kind of useless.
I need to see more improvement in this techonology before I'm interested.
flying cars, my parrent's worse nightmare. They would hate the idea that I can get in one of those cars and just fly away. It's one of the best idea's I've heard in a long time. We're probably gonna live in buildings that raise above the clouds next.
I don't like this idea, the air if for planes not millions of cars, this would just be a breeding ground for death, and long falls. Unless they somehow figure out a way to make all the cars, Phase through anything dangerous, ex another car. This so isn't for me.
thats riducoulous flying cars ....what if you run into a building.. or hit another car then u are no more! flying cars are a terrible idea
The flying car is very cool, but I would not tell anyone to drive it. Because anything bad could happen to it. I just dont think that people should be able to put that kind of stuff out... I also think that is a nice way to ride around in but I just dont think that that is the best way to drive....! Like if its a realy strong wend and rain what could you do then, Because to me you have to be trained to know how to work those kinds of cars that fly around no matter how easy it may look. I just dont think that is a really good source and I would not get it natter how great are nice it look because anything could bad could happen to you and to it.
Well, i think flying cars is an intresting idea. It's a whole lot faster than driving on the highway, and in traffic. But, i don't think alot of people will change their mind, on driving their own cars.
ITs a fun consept, but I'll pass. With people flying their cars to work, ther will be less people on the roads. So i'll stay on the ground.
flyingcars...mmhmm ok let's get one thing straight here. this is an awesome idea to avoid traffic and roadkill but can you picture a 16 teen year old "fly-driver"??!? let alone me?!
Thats just screams disaster, does it not?
Speaking of which, I only minorly disagree with the idea of f.c.'s being a bad idea. I just actually read more of the article, and I get now that the car is meant to hover a few feet, not fly. So, there will probably be a regulation computer onboard that will automatically slow down when it notices you're going around a certain speed or something, but that's just my hopes.
You can go 115 mph in your car so this isn't much faster. It COULD be safer but the crashes ARE more deadly. It would make high speed chases easier and more intertaining to reslove.
The flying car a staple of science fiction for the better part of the last century could be one step closer to reality. Terrafugia Inc., which has been working on its roadable aircraft since 2006, is planning to execute the first flight of its transition air-car sometime over the next three weeks. The first flight of the full scale version of the transition will be at an undisclosed landing strip in upstate New York according to the Woburn-based company's founder, Carl Dietrich.
This isnt gonna be as bad as critics are making it out to be, everyone seems to think that this is being advertised to the average driver. But the company is advertising it to pilots, and people with the special training, to fly it. But it is cool how it is street legal due to the retractable wings.
The flying car concept could be good and bad. The ways in which it could be good is lower gas maybe and you can enjoy the scenery. the bad ways is the air would be too crowded and become more polluted.
I wouldnt want to fly in the air, I dont even like airplanes, something might happen to the car, I would like something to happen on the ground instead of air. Ill stay on the ground.
I dont think I would like fying cars. their a so many recks these days and this will make it even more dangerous to drive. I think death rates will go up if we had this kind of transportation. I mean sure every one would think they look cool but its dangerous.
Yeah I don't think it's a good idea for cars to fly because people litter; throwing cans, plastic wrappers, cups, babies and other stuff out their car window. People are also rude so I know they would purposely run into a gaggle of flying birds for the heck of it. And it would be easy to run your car into a building, I mean people have already gone crazy; shooting up their families and stuff. So I don't think it's a good idea at all.
i think the idea is pretty spifforific, but then again so is the concept of baby skull seeking bullets, as presented in "the whitest kids you know" no matter how neat the concept, it's still stupid there's no need to have flying cars, there are planes for that though i can't say i wouldn't enjoy seeing a ton of idiots try and fail at it if this does become a reality they'd better at least be smart enough to make them all automatics (stick shifts stink!!!!!)
I think the car/airplane looks carzy. I think that the idea is crazy. Whats the point of having this idea if only piolts can drive the cars. I think that the idea could work sometime in the future.
ok first of all this car is UGLYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and if you accidently pushed the button that made the wheels pop out while driving 70mph down the highway you would hit someone and cause a huge crash but it's ok just yell out "oh, sorry bout that my ugly wing just poped out hope you have insurance!" and this would hurt to be in a wreck in the sky because you would fall into a lake or on top of a pointy....something like a...bird house or something!!! so i dont like the idea. and they probably wouldnt make the cool sounds like george jetson's does!! and are they going to be able to drop passengers out on a chair that takes them to the mall or a ball game or school??? NO!!!!
They could take that and make the freakin batmobile.... it would be soooo cool. Just think... your driving... Oh Noooosss a wall... wings come out and BAM! up and away!
Having a car that fly would be nice if you are in a hurry or trying to get out of a traffic jam but it could also be very dangerous when trying to land because the front of the car is so heavy and it might cause the car to flip forwards and land in a dangerous way.
i dont think im ready for a flying car yet.i still havent mastered the ground yet.but its pretty cool that they are trying to invent one
Flying cars....yeeeaaah. Not really something I would be willing to try. I'm somewhat afraid of heights and flying scares me. I can only imagine trying to land and all that. Would basically every parking area have like a small landing strip. I don't think the idea will catch on for quite a while.
i dont really like the idea of a flying car because people would reck into each other all the time, and not everyone would get to drive because you would probably have to get a license for it and that isnt any fun.
its a good idea.but its really expensive.its a good idea for when there is a lot of traffic.i think i would use one of them
i think the flying car will happen one day but i dont think that they will be a factor anytime soon. even when they get it down pact not very many people will be able to get them.
Olivia . . . where on earth do you drive that people throw babies out the window? LOL
I agree with you Ashley. I need to see more improvement in the ideas before this option would become viable for me.
Also, I'm reminding myself now not to ever ride with Ross or Marquecia.
Ross would find it exciting to fly right up to the edges of buildings, Marquecia is landing so fast her car flips end over end.
Ummmm . . . I'll pass, thanks. LOL
Thanks for linking to our story. You may want to know that the "roadable aircraft" has, in fact, taken its first flight and that story was published just a couple of weeks ago: http://www.masshightech.com/stories/2009/03/16/daily27-Flying-car-takes-its-first-flight-.html
i have a problem with hights sometimes and am half afraid of driveing sometimes so mixing the two together would be a disaster for me. no flying cars thanks
ive seen stuff like this on tv too...and i have to agree with mrs. l...its pretty dumb...plus how would you have lanes and stuff....i mean if everyone was just flying around with no lanes or directions then there would be collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision after collision......not a good idea
Yall please take a look at the link supplied in DOUG's comment. Apparently they've tested the car recently. I'll try to download the video from home and bring it to watch.
Thanks for the link DOUG. The students may have questions for you, if that's ok?
The fact that the car actually worked is pretty crazy. But i agree with most people it sounds like the safety of the driver is in question when it comes to flying cars. But I am sure that someone will find a good way to make the flying cars a standard in the world. We will just have to sit back and see what happens.
its futuristic, its impressive, but its stupid. i imagine there will be many more deaths than with just regular cars and countless crashes, wrecks, etc. plus, since these cars will enable us to be in the air, those collisions will most likely end in death. we should just keep cars earthbound
i think its gonna be called sucide cars becuase when the start selling them people are probably goona die so i think its a bad idea.
Even though flying cars may be built they probably wont be used as the main use of transportation for a long time because these cars would be costly like you wouldnt even beleive and not to mention that people arleady cant drive when they are on the ground how bad do you think its going to be if those idiots are flying around.
i think that it is cool but you will probably have to get a pilot type of license to be able to drive it so more paper work it would help alot but i guess a $150,000 is not a lot of money for a flying car.
the idea of flying cars sounds great.. but way 2 risky... i'll stick to the roads... even though some people are crazy drivers...CARMEN!! JAJA
but in like 20 years if they have perfected the flyin car of kourse i'll want one...
awww i used to watch the jetsons back in the day. I would always think it would be impossible to have flying cars. I just wonder how they are going to do streets or someway to control the flying cars???? Can you just drive it like wherever!
Just so you know mrs. L im a super awesome driver..jaja April just didnt tell me that there was a car behind me when i was reversing.=]
Wait a minture! Flying cars may exist, but It was very danger to land and sky. By the way, ask pliot will teach you how flying car to land and sky. I feel very danger in flying cars.
Still, on the topic of cars! Geez, what is it with people and cars. First of all, BAD IDEA!!! What the heck are people thinking? Idiots who own them will most likely crash in mid-air. But on the other hand, it'd be funny. Anyways, in our generation, we're not ready to have 'flying' cars, it would be chaos. We're too stupid and not well informed on high-tech things such as this car. Second...way too much money for both the car and probably gas.
i remember the jetsons mrs.l!
the flying car thing worked for the jetsons but thet are the only people dat need to do it. the t.v land people. driving cars in the sky would not be a good idea for us human beings. it just doesnt seem too safe. like mrs.l said...no more fender benders...it would be life enders!
Flying cars...umm I think it not a good idea because it might be so hard to land. And they might not be a good transportation. And it will not be popular as some of the other things that i see on the blog so far. and it maight take four time longer to get a license to fly somewhere. And it will not be cheap as to get license. And think about the accident that we can have up in the air just to fly around the world.
If you wan't to fly, then get in an airplane, if you want to drive get in a car. Right now this technology seems like a crummy combination of a car and airplane, it is neat but not very useful. What is the demand for this techonlogy, other than the coolness factor. Who needs to drive and fly?
I would be glad to answer questions, Mrs. L. I am the editor of masshightech.com and am here in Boston, Mass. I can be reached at "editor@masshightech.com" The video is available on the story page of the second link I provided.

I love this new concept of a small passenger plane as a feature of buying a new car. Getting a pilots license would be worth skipping traffic on the ground and cruising at 100 mph in the air. I mean, not everyone should have access to a plane (some were just not meant to fly, just picture the common accident and multiply by 10). Also i'm trying to imagine a drive-by between two enemies, not so good for everyone below on the sidewalk when the car with the most bullet holes embeded in the side decides to crash. Nontheless, I wouldn't mind owning a transition car.
There was an older car made that flew in the past but it was an experimental car that only had 3 production models made. Someone in east texas bought one of the still working models and they were on the news last year.
flying cars do exist but only if you are rich and have your own land to fly in. it looks as if in the future there is going to be allot of changes. they might not do airplains any more if the flying cars are being sold. i like the idea but if you do crash hope it will be on the ocean it is a softer landing than land. the license maybe harder to get it might have alot of restrictions or might even need to take alot of flying classes so we wont crash. but it all sounds good to me
ok i personally dnt think flying cars are needed, i can barely drive on the road. i mean driven in air would be very chaotic.Non on follows all the rules on the road so who really would in the air. This is insane, they've gone mad i wouldnt dare waste a good grip of money on that, even if i did have it...
That ain't a flying car... thats a plane with wheels. George Jetson had a straight hovercraft. When we can use the Earth's gravity against itself is when we will have flying cars.
For this "roadable aircraft"... you will probably just need a drivers liscence and the correct pilot's liscence.
Lemme borrow a couple million from you real quick.
How would i be able to drive this on the road with those big on wings on the side of them. I mean if two flying cars came driving down the road how would that work. Unless there was some way you can fold them inside. That would just work just GREAT!!!
i think its so cool that...someone made a flying car...its never been done before..so i think its a real good idea
Well we all can't have flying cars. What about the people who hate flying and the people who are scared of heights and stuff. I wonder if it comes in the color green and if roads would have ramps on them.....would the flying car actually be called a flying car or would they add a fancy name to it? Maybe it would work if it a mode of transportation for a big group of people, like a Greyhound, who have to travel somewhere far but not far enough to need to actually ride in a plane for. And they have to fly lower than planes but higher than cars. I mean if you really like the idea of flying cars and want to use it. but I still see people throwing cans, candy wrappers and babies out their flying car.
Awe The Jetsons =) What a great show! The dog was always my favorite. But anyways.. Flying cars thats pretty cool. Though flying scares me and I hate heights. Sure why not? You mad a point though - one crash and your gone. That would suck so bad. what if they had drunk flyer? That would be horrible. Who knows - maybe it will be cool.
....there would still be collisions.....
Flying cars, huh? Personally, I think driving a flying car is like flying a airplane. You just can't have everyone driving it. You have to mastered it and pass a pretty long test over it. I can't imagine having that many people flying their fancy lil' vehicles in the sky without a huge collision. Then everyone and the flying cars would all get blown up, then ground would start shakin'...oooohhhh.
so ive already seen this design for the car on ripleys and it was in the 50s and failed missereably but if they worked all the bugs out it be awsome
I wouldn't test one, use one, or buy one. You have got to be kidding me. I'm not a heights person and it's crazy enough for me to be at the mercy of a pilot on a plane for travelling. If I had to drive it I would not be able to make my hands stop shaking long enough to turn the thing on. And these cars being able to drive on land, too? What's the point? If, and I did say "if", I had one, I would much rather just stay in the air and avoid all other traffic and road problems - and the view would be cooler, anyway. It's neat that they are striving for things like this, but I will be one of the last to conform!
Hey Doug I have a question. Do you think that flying cars will be the future of personnel transportation or will it just stay as a concept never to be reached?
a flaying car egh??
well i think its a good idea is just that it might bring more accidents...
but yea its a pretty good idea.
flying cars hu. ya i did not now that the jetsons were moveing in to the real world yet i thought it would never happen now look at this flying cars i not much of a flyer my self but if millions of people want to fly let them but stay a way from me i like were i am so ya no flying cars for me thanks
