Blog 7 - October 29, 2012

Howdy! Thanks for logging in!

This week I would like to explore some new ideas for transportation.

Obviously the transportation industry has been working on getting away from fossil fuels for a very long time. Are you buying your own gas for your car? $3.30 a gallon hurts, a lot. Following are some new ideas that might help us move away from petroleum products.

As always, read today. Blog Thursday. As always, READ MY WORDS so that you know what I'm asking and you can answer the question intelligently and not lose credit.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/15/cardboard-bicycle-izhar-gafni-inventor_n_1966166.html?utm_hp_ref=green
(You may watch the video. You don't really need headphones, it's pretty boring to listen in.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_i-REAL
I have a Top Gear video for this one and I'll play it at the end of class if someone will remind me.

http://www.gizmag.com/gyroscopic-personal-transportation/22060/

http://www.gizmag.com/another-honda-bombshell-3r-c-single-person-electric-concept/14312/

For blog credit this week, you will choose one of the above personal transportation devices, tell us which one, and give us at least one drawback that you can see to that vehicle. Your drawback cannot be "nobody can ride with you." That's obvious, as they are PERSONAL tranports.

Talk to me . . .

The toyota I-real personal mobility concept,is a good vehicle to buy becasue its electrical and its small, so it can be stored almost everywhere, but to me there is one drawback, and that is that when it rains you are most likely to get wet.

I chose the round concept vehicle. The one major drawback is that it requires self-balancing.

One disadvantage of Toyota's iReal is that it can only reach a speed of 18.6 mph.

the 3r-c honda bombshell is cool because it uses solar panels to charge when it is parked. one drawback is that the windshield doesnt cover your whole face.

i chose the cardboard bicycle. i think it's really cool, but the big drawback i would have a peoblem with is that it would be extremly unsafe to ride, i mean one pothole could completely destroy the bike and end up getting the rider hurt.

indian personal transport concept, the major drawback that i found is that its navigated by a joystick. i know i wouldnt feel safe being in a car that is driven by a joystick.

The one major drawback of the 3R-C single-person electric concept car is it doesnt have a roof so what if it rains?

I like the Ford Fiesta. The drawback I saw was that there were no mirrors. One wouldn't be able to see behind oneself.

The Honda Bombshell 3R-C looks nice and that would be something fun to ride. The only draw back is that its small so if you get into a wreck you really don't have anything to protect you!!

The Toyota I-Real, it looks cool, and fun to ride...but it has no seatbelt or windshield, im so accident prone...i would NOT ever get on one, i would fly off the front of it!!!

The toyota i-real is neat way of transportation no walking. toyota has had many gas saver cars. so this invention is very nice. its also a gas saver. the point being that its a chair, it looks very comfortable but there are many drawbacks so i couldnt just name one, i'll name 2. theres no windshield nor seatbelt. so you will get wet and mostlikely fall out of it if it is slipery.

The Toyota i-REAL seems like a great vehicle, I would get it, but it does have a few drawbacks, like no seatbelt, if it rains, I'll get wet, and the speed, but other than that it's great, so I'd still get it.

The round concept vehicle is not a safe car to be in. In order to stay upright, it requires self balance. That means you couldn't hardly move or do anything.

I find the Fliz Bike very interesting. It combines walking and running for it to move. The major drawback I see in this is the possibility of falling...now what you gone do if you trip on a rock while your strapped to that thing? OUCH! I dont know about yall but if I wanna run Ill go to the track the whole point of a bike is so that you can ride it...duh.

The Toyota I-real is a vary intrseting concept. however there are sevral drawbacks i've noticed.
1.You have no protection from rain.
2.Its highest speen is 18.6 MPH not excatly street worthy.
Because of its low maximum speeds and no rain protection it wouldn't be vary popular vs other car which can go over 110 MPH and have prtection aginst rain.

Is it just me or do round cars just never seem like a good idea? I mean isnt it a common joke that people who are overprotective put themselves in a bubble? well thats what the indian students concept reminds me of...a bubble. i mean its cool how it balances and all and it doesnt need gas but come on think nof the drawbacks. The one that sticks out to me the most is, its one giant window. Maybe Im being silly and not looking hard enough, but i dont see any windshield wipers. Good luck driving on a rainy say. also i dont even want to know how many finger smudges your gunna get all over that thing. you may think that im just trying to sy somehthing bad about it blah blah but come on that thing litterally looks like a hampster ball!

I Like The Cardboard Bycicle, a draw back i see is the simple fact that it would wear down extremely fast, much faster than other bikes. Other than that it's full of swag, but it wouldn't be swag if I was riding it one day and it broke on me and I fell into a puddle. I Would be beyond angry.

I would love to own the toyota iReal. Its sophisticated design and enginuity seems perfect for one of those futuristic vehicles we've only dreamed of. The drawback i see with this is that it needs a protective glass over the top so your secure in it, and it should have a better engine to go faster than 20-22mph. I would seriously buy this if they are selling this vehicle.

I liekt he Toyota i-REAL. Its a vehicle that i would definatly want to own and ride around in because who doesnt want to be lazy like a fat kid everywhere they go. One draw back I believe that would be a problem would be controlling the speed since its all controlled by the joystick.

I chose the Honda 3R-C Single-Person electric car and it seems like a really cool vehicle, but a drawback on it is that the windsheild on it doesnt go all the way over and around the driver, it only goes up to like half of thier face. So this would mean that you wouldn't be able to drive it in the rain, unless you wanted to get the whole inside of your vehicle and yourself soaked!

Tyler good point about the joystick.

Lanham said...

Ummmmm, there's no seatbelt on motorcycles. Anybody think of that?

I thought the 3R-C single-person electric concept was cool but one drawback is that i dont think it has a seatbelt so just like if you were on a motorcycle and you got in an accident you would fly off.

Jesse, I see so many problems with that cardboard bike concerning water! Swag would be the least of your worries.

One of the drawbacks of the IReal is that it does not have a top or a shield, so if you were out you could get hit with things and it might rain and all that jazz. Also there is no saftey if you were to get into an accident.

I like the Honda 3r-c because its stylish small and mobile but the drawbacks are that it looks too small for someone with thicker legs and when you drive it might not block your face so you can go around and get hit in the face by bugs
