Blog 17 - February 3, 2014

Hola homies!

Let's talk about CES again. Not surprisingly, most of you said you would like to attend this event in the future. Me too. But midweek when there aren't one gogillion people there.

So lets look at the numbers from this year's attendance. Please follow these links:

Read Tuesday. Blog Thursday. Wednesday Edit: Pick a number in one of the two above articles and tell us which one and why it surprised you.

Example: I'm choosing the exhibitor number from the second article. It surprised me because I don't even know where you could physically put 3200 vendors!

From the first link: the fact that 95.6 percent of photos taken at CES '14 were posted to Instagram. I actually expected Twitter or Facebook to have most or at least some people posting like crazy.

The fact that 95.6% of pictures taken were uploaded to Instagram is surprising to me. I definitely would have expected it to be the majority, but I really expected there to be more Twitter photos taken at an event such as CES.

I think that the hashtags were pretty crazy. I mean 2.88 billion people don't use Twitter and I'm sure that half the people on Twitter don't know what CES is. That means that people had to put #CES a bunch of a times.

The numbers really surprised me. I didn't think that, that many people came to event made for technology. The whole social network conversations was a surprise too! Its cool how theyre using technology to spread the word about technology.

From the first link, it surprised me how all social CES conversations estimated to about 85.45% on Twitter. I wouldn't of expected it to be such a popular topic throughout Twitter, therefore, I was very much astonished by this.

I chose this article because it gives me more info in words and it surprises me that they were able to fit a third of the world population in there and how many important figures not just from the US but from other parts of the world were there.

256,782 people went to CES on Tuesday and that is a lot of people at one event. But most people(95.6%) posted images and mentioned CES over instagram. I did expect twitter or facebook to take over but apparently instagram is the new greatest thing.

What I can't believe is how much percent of the pictures from CES were sent to instagram. That is crazy there were so many hashtags about CES because of all the pictures that went to instagram instead of twitter and facebook. Instagram has became so much popular for pictures now.

I am choosing the second link: "The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) has announced 2014 International CES was the largest show in history, with a record two million net square feet of exhibit space housing more than 3,200 exhibitors." From the first link, the fact that 40% of the earth's population used the sign #CES2014 surprised me the most. That means that almost half of the world was busy sharing and posting stuff to their social media sites like Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc. There are 7 billion people in the world so 40% of that is about 2,800,000 billion people posting thinmgs about CES 2014!

What number surprised me the most? It is present in both links, sitting there so innocently. Most people glance over it without noticing, without taking a second to think about what it means. I am talking about, of course, 2014.

As we know, our current counting of dates begins roughly around the birth of Jesus Christ. Since then, two-thousand and fourteen years have passed. Two thousand and fourteen! This is an incredibly large number, when you consider all that has happened since then. Empires have risen and fallen, technology has advanced from metal hammers to computers and calculators, and human rights have taken leaps and bounds towards equality in the Western World. And all this-- all two-thousand and fourteen years-- represent only a tiny chunk of human history, and an almost unnoticeable speck on the history of the Earth. Consider that for a moment. We have come so very far in a very small amount of time, and to me, this is rather exciting and surprising. Who would have guessed our silly little human race could do so much in such little time?

I chose the first link because I thought it was very interesting on how many people ACTUALLY show up and are a part of such a large technology group. Surprisingly, 95.6% of the photos that were taken and posted were uploaded to Instagram. Not Facebook, not Twitter, not even Snapchat. Another interesting fact is that 40% of the world's population went there in those selected days... Wow. Just Wow.
