Blog 20 - 2/1/10

Hola Peeps!

So last week there was much ado about the Ipad. Steve Jobs made an announcement that apparently made the world stop spinning for a minute.

To which I say . . . meh.

Don't get me wrong. I think the thing is cool. Do I need to run right out and get one when they become available in March? Not so much.

I also am not convinced that people will run out and buy one of these if they thought laptops were too expensive. I bought my last laptop for about $450 and it can do lots more than than Ipad.

I think this nifty little device plays right to the hardcore nerds and technophiles. You know the folks I'm talking about. The ones who have to go right out and purchase whatever the newest piece of technology is, without any thought to it's usefulness or longevity.

So I want to explore the Ipad a bit. On a larger level, I want to explore over the coming weeks Apple's devotion to introducing us to technology we didn't know we needed. And also I would like to explore how Apple designs products and gets them to market.

Check out ALL these links. Give me an INFORMED opinion about how we could use this device.

Talk to me . . .

i read the articles and looked the videos on the apples ipad homepage, and all i gotta say about them is total brainwashing propaganda. Its not "the best" way to do or view anything.

Although Apple is setting a new and rather high standard for tech and ergonomics within the tech itself, the ipad is just a new piece of convenience or inconvenience, however you see it.

I believe the iphone is still the largest technology breakthrough of the decade, the ipad is essentially just an iphone with a big screen. The two are so similar that any and all apps from the iphone will work with the ipad CUZ THEY ARE THE SAME THING!!!!!!

This is just apples way to sell the iphone to new and seasoned users at double the price. DONT BUY INTO IT PLEASE!

Ray Cole said...

Yes, but essentially developers are going to make apps that are made specifically for the iPad, Like the new York times app they showed off at the announcement event.
That takes use of the iPad's 9.7 inch screen
Nova which is a game for the iPhone is also getting an update adding new features for the iPad.
I agree, it's a giant iPod Touch.
Will I get this?
No, not this interation.
They wanted a device that was between netbooks and smartphones.
Most netbooks have built in webcams, and can run mutliple applications. You also aren't restricted to the apps that apple themselves approve.

Once the iPad gets a camera (maybe 2...1 forward facing for video conferncing, the other on the back), the ability to run multiple apps, and a less strict approval process for the app store.

Plus adding flash support.

Then I might give it another look.

There are lots of uses for the Ipad.Such as the apps that many people use every day.I agree with the people saying its a giant ipod touch. It does about as much as an ipod touch, but with a few specical apps for the ipad.

Well, to start off the IPad seems like something I wouldn't get. For one thing, I don't think I'd trust myself with it much less anyone else to touch it. Besides, if I wanted something that was portable, I'd shoot for a laptop. Besides, I'm not really up to date about any of Apple's products either.

A few things that I don't like so far is the fact that it doesn't have a camera or USB drive. The iTunes and iBookstore apps are useless to me. For I don't use iTunes to get my music and I never liked the idea of having books on a device. It's weird to me. No multitasking!? D= That's not right!

I personally am not one to run out to pick it up. I have no real use for this piece of tech.

Also to upload pictures, you have to get a camera hook up set if you want them from your cam, or syncing them from the internet.

So more or less, this is just another commercial item to appeal to the nerds and rich people, to me anyway.

BTW: HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALECIA SHEPHERD!!!! =D

I can't believe Apple Inc. would release such a product :(. It has no phone function and it's freaking hughe, unportable, no 3D and it seems breakable. So whats the point of buying one?

Baker,M-1 said...

Ok at first i was like, OMG this is so freakin AWESOME. Then i started looking on Apples site and realized, its missing a few key detail that all laptops and tablets need to have. A CD drive, a USB drive, and any place to put a micro chip. Which makes me think this is just an iPhone that cant call people.

But there is a way to get all your CDs and DVDs on there. Re-buy the from to iTunes store. Good for Apple, bad for us.

All in all, knowing me, I'd probably still get it. Its less bulky than a laptop. Even if you have to buy the music and videos from them, its good pic quality. and you can hook it up to a camera, or another phone.

So why do i advis you NOT to get it? 1 word- Price.

Sure, it STARTS and about 500 dollars, but if you want 3G, its more like $700. This is only for 16GB. For 32GB just wifi its $600, FOR 3G ITS $800. In the end, you are paying over $1000 for the computer, pluss apps, plus video, plus music.

That seems like a big scam for and oversized iPhone to me.

Well the whole idea on the iPad thing is kinda cool, but not my idea of importance. If you want a portable E-Mailer then get a LapTop and if you want a touch screen anything get an iPhone or a View or something. But honestly the iPad is not a necessity and I personally would NOT waste my money on anything that dumb basically.

They just want you to continue to waste your money on something that you DON'T need. Its so big you can't put it in your back pocket. You can't call people on it. You don't need to touch things just to get a better look at it. You can find so many faults in an iPad that it ios not funny.

Yeah its cool, but seriously do we really need something else that is so similar to an iPhone. Do we really need someething that is so expensive and most people can't afford it. NO WE ABSOLUTELY DON'T!!!!

At first glance the ipad looks revolutionary, an absolute breakthrough in the world of technology. But taking a closer look, its not all that its built up to be. Take the iphone, enlarge it, and presto! ipad. sure it may have some new advances with apps and quality, but essentially its the same product on a larger scale.
As a senior ive been thinking about buying a laptop to take to college with me. A laptop is so much more useful, especially to a college student than the ipad. Can i write a paper and print it out on the ipad? no. Lets face it, its just as good as the iphone and not as good as a laptop. Why spend money on it?
Does it look cool? Would i like to have one? yes, and yes. But in the grand scheme of things, its not anything special, and as far as usefullness goes, just buy a laptop. Sure it doesnt have a cool touch screen, but a lot more can be accomplished with it.

Sampietro, M-3 said...

Yes, Mrs. Lanham I agree completely with you. Laptops that have the ability to do sooo much more than the iPad are no more eexpensive, so why buy the iPad? It is merely new, sparkly technology so therefore it will most likely sell like crazy to all the people who are still obsessing over the iPhone. To me, I just wouldn't get it...ever. I've seen how grody the iPhone screens get with people grubby little fingers always stroking it and touching it. The iPad would be just as bad. That's the extent of my thinking. It gets grody, I have to spend my time cleaning it...maybe when they make the iClean, I'll buy the iPhone, the iPad. Not to mention I agree with Johanna and Mrs. Lanham who said that the name is quite...undesirable. We've entered and era in which they put an "i" in front of any word, and people go crazy. Maybe they should put an "i" in front of every word, especially those things that I really don't wanna do...iFeedMyCats, iHomework, iFamilyReunion, iChores, iWakeup...the list could go on and on and on...

T-Williams said...

Although this new piece of technology is really pretty and I would love to have one, I also believe its a waste of money. Most people/teenagers today have at least a computer at home and some sort of mP3 player or iPod. It would be really stupid to go out and waste $500-$1000 on something you already have. Just because of the easiness of the portability doesnt really equal up to spending that much money on something useless. I could see someone buying this if they didnt have a computer, iPhone, or iPod, but like I said, most people do these days.

Overall, I believe that the iPad is a waste of money for today's generation.

Spruiell, S - 4 said...

I really agree with Sarah...yea, the Ipad looks cool and it definitely qualifies as what Mrs.L would call sparkly, but what does it really do? It doesnt have the same capabilities of a laptop, it is essentially a big ol' Iphone. In my opinion, Apple is merely running a massive scheme based on (mostly American) consumerism and the instant gratification that comes with sparkly new technology. Yea, it can run cool new apps...Made by Apple. Yea, it can play music from Itunes...Made by Apple. And yes it can provide a better, more hi-def movie experience on movies provided to you by...you guessed it, Apple. Everything about the Ipad is designed to make you reliant on Apple and their services. Yes, its a cool product. Do i find it to be revolutionary? No. In my opinion, its an Iphone on steriods. The hype is definitely not worth the product.

After readin some about the IPad i really want one!!!Even though it seems just like an IPod or an IPhone I still want one becuz I dont have either one of them!I really like how you can watch the movies on them because they would be good if you are going on a trip or something and I like how your photos are when you want to look at them!

One thing I think it needs is a camera though!I love taking pictures of anything and everything so if they made one with a camera on it i would seriously wanna get one!But over all I would like to have one!!!

lol first of all thanks everyone for the happy birthdays!!<(^-^)> that's really nice of yall...second of all, it's cool that apple keeps trying to put new things up, but maybe they should first improve it where it can really compete with other devices, rather than be something along side it...the iPad is just for viewing things & playing games, but it could be much more if they developed it just a little more

bushiey, k - 4 said...

I really like the idea of having one just buy the looks of itand it does look like something that i would want to use, but then again i think that it should have usb connectors, and stuff like that to make it appeal more like a laptop, because to me thats what it is! But theres two reasons why i would't get it...first i don't have the money! second: i already have a laptop :) But if someone in my family got one, i would try it out and let that deicde if i really needed one or wanted one.

Unger, B - 6 said...

Okay, I can see many uses for the iPad, but its not like I've gotta have it. If i had an iTouch I wouldn't be that excited about the iPad because they are very similar, so it wouldn't be worth the extra money. (if you don't have an iphone you may consider the ipad more because it doesn't require a cell phone plan, at least not that I'm aware of, lol).
To me this is just a device thats a cross between a laptop, a phone, and an ipod. Its just the first one of its kind, hopefully they'll become more afforadable and more intelligent. I have to admit the apps are really cool, but can't you live with out them? You're alive right now and the ipad isn't in your hands...
I'm going to let the new technology plays itself out for a little while and let the apple team work out the quirks of their new technology and see how it improves to fit our life better. Not many people are going to want to keep changing their files to fit the best and newest technology because for one many don't have the money or the time.

Padilla, E - 6 said...

in my opinion this ipad is cool but i surely wouldn't buy one ill rather buy a laptop... besides the ipad is going to be really expencive. it starts at $499 but before you now it is going to be at least $800. the ipad is just a bigger cooler version of an ipod and iphone.i see no point besides that apple makes more money but besides that no point...

Um... no camara??? No multitasking??? Oh yay it has multitouch... wait my phone has a camara, and multitasking but it doesn't have multitouch. But it also has over 40,000 apps that are pre-approved and over a million apps that aren't pre-approved but still work just as approved ones do. So um... my phone lets me talk to people and does more than the Ipad and can also view entire webpages. and it can also watch videos in HD so um... my phone > Ipad.

Alecia: Happy Birthday :3

Mrs. L/Everyone else: If the touch screen is so sensitive, why wasn't there an advertisement for a case to go with it? Unless, of course, it's not meant to be taken anywhere. In that case, the iPad's status in my eyes seriously drops. Didn't the ad (maybe one of the sites?) say something about it not having a camera, because it's meant to help you view you photos wherever you are?

I suppose I would get a kick out of the iBooks, maybe the movies, and probably the Sims app, if it's compatible. However, I'll always be a fan of actual, tangible, page-turnable, book-smelling books, I can always get the movies via my dad's DVD club, and I'm pretty happy with my PC version of the Sims.

The *STARTING* price is also a bit of a turn off. I wouldn't want to spend that much just to replace a perfectly good, already bought, still working computer.

I think the most use I would get out of the iPad, in the end, would be using it to beat unsuspecting idiots 'round the head with.

Jim Taylor said...

So i think that apple is just trying to sell units with propaganda. This product has maybe 3 differences from the itouch, which is rediculous for the price.
Next thing you know, there's gonna be an ipad nano....commonly known as an ipod touch.

Tutt, S - 7 said...

I think this is stupid and just another way for apple to get people to buy an itouch for 2 times the price. but i do agree with Ray if it had a few more things i might be interested but for the most part i dont think it's worth the problems you might get. I mean it could break really easily. Then what would you do with your precious iPad??

Goad, G - 7 said...

Look for all u bashers out there, the ipad is cool, and u know it, ur just sayin this cause everyone else is sayin this. I hate havin to zoom in on my itouch so the big screen is really cool and there will prolly end up being a lot mor apps just for the ipad so ya, its cool, and its not a phone!! for all u dummies out there who think its supposed to b a phone. the end.

I dont really like the i anything first of all its too pricey and i can find something cheaper that will do the same things now back to the ipad its not really as good as its hyped up to be personally to me name somethings you can do that you cant do on another thing and if it had a camera or a couple of USB ports it would probably get more rrecognition from me and its huge i thought it would be something you could pull out anywhere but you cant even pull it out in class and surf the web its actually pointless it is just a big itouch

Tyler! Good to see you! How's White Oak going?

Ray, I knew this would get your attention.

Here's the thing that I realized after I watched the video . . . you really cannot compare this to anything on the market today. It's not trying to take the place of the laptop. It's certainly not comparable to the iPhone. It really is something unto itself.

Having said that, do I need one? Still not so much. I'm covered up in technology, tyvm.

I also have a tendency to agree with the posters that think it's one more Apple racket to get us to download tunes at iTunes, download books and video from them and purchase air time / internet from them. It's bordering on goofy, really, that we would allow ourselves to be taken by them so often. OK, that may be an oversimplification, but you guys know what I mean.

Liles, T-1 said...

HMMM...Hows White Oak?

Well just a bunch of traditional white people, raising traditional white families the traditional white American way. So not really the best host for my favorite "recreational" activities. But i get by.

Trikosko, M-1 said...

Yes, it is just a big iPhone which kind of defeats the purpose. When you have a device that is as big as a laptop, cost as much as a laptop, and does less than a laptop, why would you want one? From what I've seen it looks like what it does do it does well, but then again it doesn't do much.

mayfield,s-1 said...

The ipad is just like the ipod touch just way bigger, and for some of the apps its just an upgrade version of the regular apps. Its too expensive, and big and breakable. I will just stick to my touch.

Gonzalez, C-1 said...

I agree with Liles, I honestly don't see what all the hype is over. I mean yeah its a pad with a touch screen, ooooooh like we haven't seen that before. Also, its practically the same thing as the iphone. I mean they've come out with a touch screen tv and computer monitor, whats so epic about the ipad. I'm pretty sure its gonna cost a whole lot more too. Other than that yeah, I could care less about the i-legacy, particularly because I don't own one. Wake me up when we start talkin about video games

Culbertson, D-1 said...

Okay, whoever is screaming propaganda....Srsly...If you're serious-chill O_o.
It's just another epic device by Apple, also to someone above, it does indeed have 3D graphics, note the "3D" racing game that dude was playing on YankoDesign.
I would love to magically own one of these devices, however paying up to, and possibly over $800.00 doesn't entice me.
I had the iPhone for about 20 days, it was great and all, however just not worth $30 for the data plan I couldn't use where I lived, so I doubt the iPad would be any better, so for now, no thanks.
As for what we can use it for....Well...It's a computer isn't it? It would just be easier to navigate and such, if Apple gave it Remote Desktop, like the iPhone App, then you could access Microsoft Office, get on the "real" internet, none of this Safari wannabe stuff, and apperently so much more.

Szu-yung said...

I agree w/ Tyler Liles and everything he said! XD ;)

The Ipad is a great start to newer, better technology in the near future. The 3G allows the Ipad to do many things such as: use high definition, run internet on 7.2 Mbps, meaning it can always be connected to, having 10 hours of battery life lets us use all the technology aspects in one day. It is great for DGA because our videos can be seen easier on it's huge screen. But it needs a camera because it has a picture part where you can look at all pics.

Goff,R-2 said...

I have to approve of the new design and the new technology that was put into the iPad. But it does lack in certain areas.
First, the iPad doesnt have a CD Drive,or a USB plug in. i feel as though these are crucial things needed for even the most basic computers. And isn't the iPad supposed to be a new revolutionary computer?
Aside from the lack of plugs and drives, i would also be concerned about the fact that the computer is all touch screen. Im pretty sure that the keyboard would slow more people down than it would speed them up.
You would also be in deep trouble if you accidently dropped it and the glass screen shattered, then you would have to pay hundreds of dollars just to get if fixed. Is it really worth it? Or what if the sensors below the glass gave out and you wernt able to touch in certain areas? you would definatly be screwed...im just sayin..

gonzalez, c-2 said...

i really enjoy the ipad it is an intresting device. i would by one but the problem is that i have recently both a laptop so yeah but if i hadnt both the laptop when it came out

Abernathy, J-2 said...

Well im not a fan of the ipad. It just doesn't seem like it would be of use. We already have laptops and computers so why do we need the ipad? I think that if a product has an i attached to the front of it then it will become a must have even if it isn't top quality. People need to look past the name and realize that it is a waste of money.

Parkhurst, M-2 said...

I love the fact that we are getting more advanced every day but I'm not sure this is the safest "computer" to have. Like the Itouch/Iphone, the glass screen is easy to work and view, especially with the larger screen but one slip up means $500 down the drain. Worth it? The new technology is wonderful, but its not much different than the Iphone. I love the pictures layout and I would love to have an Ipad but I would feel much safer with a laptop because with a laptop, even if the screen cracks you can still use the keyboard. With the Ipad circumstances would be different. Hopefully there are some industructable cases invented for this Ipad, because personally thats the only flaw I see.

I wount run off and buy the ipad as soon as it goes on sale to me its like a ipod touch on steroids it has a lot of cool apps and its realy cool how u can view ur pictures but other then that it doesnt attract my attention i would rather buy a laptop or a new purse :)

Call me old fashioned, but if I want a computer, I want a desktop. Shoot me. My cell phone can make calls and text, receive pictures and videos, and play ring tones. That's all I need.

The iPad looks really cool, I will admit. I definitely love the fact that Apple is so eager to release new technology out into the world to help our advancement into a more tech savvy world, however, to me, the iPad just looks like an enlarged iPhone. Plus, to me, it seems like they're going to start releasing apps for the iPad exclusively, so all of the app junkies are going to fidget all over the place. Honestly, I would rather buy a new computer..not the iPad.

i have to idea where to start on this ipad deal. but in my opinion i think its cool even though it's a bigger version of your iphone. to me its just a modern version of a laptop basicall you just can have more of the hands on theme going for you but i think the only draw back to it would be the fact that is entirely touch screen, no external hardaware of nothing what if the screen messes up and you cant touch it anymore. that would suck especially if you paid over $500 dollars for it.....

Ok...the iPad has some cool features, but, overall, I still think it kinda sucks. So let me count the ways: The iBook feature is pretty cool, but I still prefer actual books; I like the awesome new touch technology (it reminds me of minority report...Tom Cruise :[ ); the Apps are still amazing, duh; I really don't like the idea of no camera (they could have fit that in somewhere); no USB...that seems to complicate things; I heard there is no multitasking, and why would I do something if I couldnt do five other things at the same time?...; I like the size, but it seems like it would be awkward to carry around with you, and where do you put it when you use it? It seems like it would be uncomfortable for your neck to have it in your lap or on the table all the time; and lets see....I think I would break it.... :( which would just suck. Oh! The price is cool though. lol I'd have to try it for like a month before I decided to purchase it for keeps...

You don't have to buy stuff from iTunes to load up your iPod there is 3rd Party support for a lot of it

You can download your music from amazon, or elsewhere.

You can rip and convert your DVD's if you want them on it.

It's really just a matter of googling it, or asking someone who knows something about managing an iPod without iTunes.

Apple just wants you to use iTunes, it's not like your completely stuck with it.

I've heard alot about the iPad as well. From everything that I've heard, its basically a bigger version of the iPhone, without the phone part. I get the appeal of the iPad because it's like GIANT iPhone, but do we really need to blow everything up to gigantic proportions? If I had money to waste I would buy the iPad just so I can keep up with new technology, but since I'm broke I see no reason to buy the iPad. First off, the touch keyboard would drive me CRAZY! Second, I don't see the reason to buy this expensive iPad when you can buy a much cheaper and more efficient laptop. Overall, I think the iPad is shiny, but it isn't worth wasting $800 on.

I like the idea of the ipad, but its not on the top of my must get list yet. They have to add something to it that makes it as much better than my laptop. Does it hook up to a printer or scanner? Will the internet be faster? Will it be less expensive with extra attachments than my laptop or what? They need to make it more appealing to me and show that it is the best product for me. It is also only 16gb, my itunes has about 22gb of stuff on it so they also need need to make it less expensive but with more memory.

*I think that the IPad is really cool and you can do everything on it. I wish that it didnt cost so much i would and go buy me two of those.*

Holy Micky Mouse! It is a giant iPhone, minus the ability to make phone calls (unless you get skype or something). It is some pretty awesome stuff, with the sleek design and application abilities. I mean, sure, it isn't likely to be the end all be all of the laptop world, or even the apple world, but it is pretty nifty. Touch screen, which makes me worry for it's durability, and it is thin, which is also another "will this thing break" issue, but all in all, it seems more than a little awesome.

Oh! And Mrs L?
"World Dominaaaaationnnnnnnnnn. World Dominaaaaationnnnnnnnnn." *w*

Now for practicality. Will I get it? No. This is mainly because I mostly type on my computer, and touch screen typing is very difficult. Yes, there /is/ a keyboard I could buy, but with the price they charge for this pretty little iPhone on steroids, I could have gotten a perfectly good laptop with a keyboard, built in mouse, and it would be /much/ more durable.

Ray . . . I know you can use stuff other than iTunes, but look how much easier it is *with* iTunes. That's on purpose. It's another level of marketing, in my opinion. It's like Apple says "let's make this so PHD (push here dummy) that people won't want to go elsewhere to get their music ripped / books purchased / apps downloaded."

I do like the Ipad, but i take alot of pictures of my friends so i need a usb port, or a camera on it so i will just stick to a computerr.

The iPad is a really cool piece of technology, I would probably get one. The only problem I see is that is isn't very portable. Technology these days are getting smaller but the iPad jumped out of the status quo and "got big." But I could live with it. I like how the videos look and the apps, It looks pretty fun and everyone should try one.

The thing I dont like about the I-pad, is that the producer said that it will not be able to support flash. What that means is that it will not be able to play mopst iinternet videos or games.... When I think about this, I wonder..... Whats the point? Dont buy the i-pad unles ur a die hard fan of apple products and about 500$ burning a hole in your pocket.

Vinther,T-2 said...

When I first heard about the iPad I figured it was going to be a whole knew step forward from the iPhone. Decided to look into it and I was very dissapointed to see it contains no USB drives, no camera, and no phone. Basically, an oversized iPod Touch. I think I'll stick with my iPhone.

Russaw, N - 6 said...

i like the a i-pad but i think that it is totally not necessary because apple is just try to get more money when the thing we do on the i-pad we can do on our laptop or computer or even our itouch phone but that in small version

Castellanos, A - 6 said...

The ipad is new, shiny, and even though some say it is cheap, $500 is still a lot of money when you could spend the same amount or a little more for a laptop. All it is is a larger iphone..with no phone. And a smaller laptop..but without some of the basics. Now I wouldnt mind having one, but its not really necessary.

Wilson, J - 6 said...

I dont really like this because its basically a big ipod touch! you can do just about every thing on the itouch that you can do on the Ipad. plus its pretty expensive. I mean i can buy a lap top for less than a 16 gig ipad. So im not a fan.

Miller, R - 6 said...

i love the ipad so far... yeah im like you i have to actually see it to know if i really want it...but right now i want it by just seeing it on the internet and no ima not a N.E.R.D. im just a little SPOLIED BRAT... that wants get something because i know alot of people not going to buy it... sorry

Rodriguez,A-2 said...

i really like the ipad but 499 is alot of money. i really liked the video because it shows alot of cool stuff that the ipad does it makes you just want to buy it..but idk i just think of it like a really big itouch or i phone like i could just imagine someone out jogging carrying an ipad hah idk but i probly wouldnt buy it

lyles,m-6 said...

i like the idea of the ipad, but, its just like a jumbo itouch pretty much.i think apple is just doing this to make more money, and thats simply it.
i dont believe i want to waste money on it when i could buy something else for half the price that does much more.

duuuuudddee! alright. the ipad... a niffty piece of device, i must say. Apple is putting a real high bar for the rest of the tech-ies =)
i mean yeah, all they did was enlarge the iphone. I'm loving it's picture staorage or whatever the ipad has but how will we view it if it has no usb port and that other jazz like that. I'm also liking that new app where you can download a book. Pretty, pretty cool! but i can do a bit more i can do lots more with my laptop and my phone. so yeah.
I'll get my hands on it whenever a friend of mine buys it hahahaha

Kaitlin brings up a good point. How do you get your photos onto this thing? Has anybody run across that info?

Fedun, M-7 said...

I think that the Ipad is just a giant ipod touch. It just has a few fancier programs and such. I dont think I would buy it just because I already have an itouch. The one cool thing i really like is that you can use 3g to connect to the internet.

Hughes, T - 7 said...

I dont get what the big deal about the ipad is. Its basically all that i already need in a laptop with some extra fancy stuff.

Long, W - 7 said...

i think this idea is awesome i mean the i touch is still amazing me its soo cool but the one problem of it is that its too small for me sooooothis idea of making it bigger it makes it better and 499 isnt bad for this type of tech. but i mean here it wouldnt be as usefull cuz wifi isnt very big up here but i still think its a great idea

Cole, V - 7 said...

Really...I don't see a point in the iPad. I mean its basically a bigger version of an iPod Touch or the iPhone. Or why not just purchase a laptop?

Btw, that one guy from the video is kinda scarey.

Clark,A-7 said...

i think its great that apple is making new technology all the time, but honestly... is really that new? or is it just an itouch on steriods?

i believe that this thing is just an overgrown itouch... with bigger print that is able to be read by the human eye... i mean yeah they improved a few things here and there, but not enough to be able charge me $450 for it!!!!!!

Hoffman, C - 7 said...

The iPad will prove usefull to people with jobs and overall I don't think it's as mundane as I first thought it was. The only problem with me is the price, which seems a bit expensive, and should be about $100-150 less. It would probably sell more that way

Ray Cole said...

The photo thing will probably be just like the iPhone and iPod touch. Synced through iTunes. There is some info about adapters that you plug into the bottom port though to add usb ports, so they may make use of that.

on a side note. I've read about stands and keyboards that would support it.
http://ow.ly/13XJy

There is a Photos tab under your ipod information and you can select which photos you wanted synced, other than that I haven't heard anything.

Mrs. L:
I know, it easier, but there is always people who hate the solution that is already there.
I use iTunes, but i rarely buy music through them. I kind of like having a physical copy, and plus it's really easy to rip the CD to iTunes because if you have iTunes open and you put it in ask you if you would like to rip the CD.

but I'll give it you on the apps, the only way to get Apps on your touch or iPhone is through iTunes, unless of course you jailbreak, and then you have the choice of Cydia, Icy, and Rock.

Lanham said...

Ray, I'm with ya on the "having a physical copy" of the music. In fact, I'm also like that about my photos. I still actually *print* photos. Imagine that!

That's why it took me so long to make the transition to digital pics.

Ray Cole said...

I actually just found this on the ipad product page

iPad Camera Connection Kit
The Camera Connection Kit gives you two ways to import photos and videos from a digital camera. The Camera Connector lets you import your photos and videos to iPad using the camera’s USB cable. Or you can use the SD Card Reader to import photos and videos directly from the camera’s SD card.

I READ THE ARTICLES AND I REALLY DON'T SEE THE POINT IN AN IPAD ITS BASICALLY A LARGER IPHONE SO WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO CARRY THAT AROUND EVERYTHING YOU CAN DO ON THE IPAD YOU CAN DO ON AN IPHONE OH IPOD...

I WON'T BE GOING TO BUY THIS NEW PRODUCT ITS NOT WORTH IT

Lopez, M-1~☺ said...

Bleh, all the articles sounded the same to me. It's basically the same as the flippin' iPhone!! So, what's the big deal? Well, it's like a laptop, ALMOST. But then why bother buying this amazing iPad when clearly a laptop can do so much more? Same this with the iPhone, if a person already has that, why buy into the iPad? WASTE OF MONEY~
Depending on how a person customizes the iPad, the value can go up to nearly $899 or so. I doubt it's actually worth it.

i think the ipad is cool and i can come in handy. i like the sleek look of it and its ability to do things like a computer and still keep the ipod look and actions. only thing is, will it be just like the the iphone without the calls and without the text messaging. it seems like it would defeat the purpose if u already have and iphone and get an ipad. it would be like having the same thing only one is bigger. idk. its still cool tho

i really like the hole ipad thing but i dont like it as is there is so much potential in this device just waiting to be unleashed (its the perfect device for getting free wifi). id really like to get one if the dev team ever gets linux ported to work with it, or any ipod touch/iphone.

Asquith,C-3 said...

Apple seems to just want you to continue to waste your money on something that you DON'T need! Its so big you can't put it in your back pocket. You can't call people on it. You don't need to touch things just to get a better look at it. You can find so many faults in an iPad that it ios not funny...Besides, most teens and even adults have at least one computer and Mp3 player in their home. It's a waste to buy something just for convenience.

Howard, Z - 4 said...

The ability of the Ipad further compasitates its abilities to perform greater tasks then any other handheld device ever made. It's amazing technology that allows you to take basically a computer wherever you go.It also opens up larger horizons for apps, and bigger/better games then any other handheld system.

ipads are cool, but what it really comes down to-"is it really neccesary to spend so much money for a device that basically makes your internet experience slightly more enjoyable?" -No absolutely not, ipads are basically a large itouch that offers many apps and ram space and provides easy access to the internet. there are so many more purposes for an ipad when the ipad 3g comes out... enough said.
