Blog 2 - 9/12/10

Hola Peeps! Thanks for coming back . . .

So I want to jump off into some pretty deep medical technology. There's a fantastic Readers Digest article about some of the newest medical advancements. Please follow this link to view the article. Please don't stop at page 1 . . . there are 5 pages.

http://www.rd.com/living-healthy/new-medical-technology-lifesaving-and-life-enhancing/article34117.html

I want you to read on Tuesday. I want you to let it work on you a couple of days and come back and post on Thursday. I want you to choose at least one of these medical advancements and give an opinion on it. How can it benefit you or someone you love? How can you see it advancing? Alternatively, you may discuss / debate someone elses opinion that's already been given.

As always, you must advance the discussion to get credit. A "yes" or "no" or "I don't care" will earn you a zero.

Here are MY opinions:

A) Ewwwwwwwa for using spider silk to repair broken bones. I mean, it's cool and all. But I absolutely ABHORE spiders and anything arachnid related.

B) Yay for fighting asthma in new ways. I developed asthma earlier this year (!) and it's a pain in the rear end to deal with.

C) Microchip for Meds skeers me. To think that I will need a reliable wireless signal for the microchip to transmit my meds to me? Pffffft. I can't even get a wireless signal reliable enough to play Words with Friends!

D) Using a scorpions sting to cure aggressive brain tumors? Well, at least those little buggers would have SOME actual use on this earth!

So what do you think? Talk to me . . .

They are right about terrorists getting their hands on the smallpox stuff, the world would be even more SOL than it already is.

That open heart surgery sounds way cool, but imagine how expensive that would be...forreal.

Imagine if a kid had that asthma thing in his nose and he sneezed...haha gross much?

The microchip thing...WICKED AWESOME! My grandma always forgets to take her medicine haha she totally needs that.

You would never think that scorpions would have venom that would help. What a random animal.

Mmmm :) I knew there was a reason why everyone likes chocolate. Dark Chocolate is alright, I like regular chocolate better..even though the dark one is healthier.

Wow, Pomegranate juice! That's really cool! Looks like guys should start drinking that now so they don't get it at all.

Hmm, they keep finding lots of medicines to help cancer, maybe the world is getting pretty close to actually finding a cure. They should try mixing the pomegranate juice with the scorpion venom...let's see what that will do ;) jk

The Breast Cancer screening sounds good because i've heard that when you go get checked it hurts so maybe if they develop that by the time I start going to get screened I won't have to worry about it hurting.

The Hemopurifier sounds mad cool to get trated before you actually get sick ,but I have actually seen people do dialysis and I know for a fact it hurts but i'd rather it hurt than have to have to be sick.

The blood backup sounds nice too because that means there will be less heart attacks and less deaths.Looking forward to that.

You know that Nano-Knitters for Nerves who knows if that would actually work and up to what circumstances would that pull through.

I would so take that anti-aging pill because I don't know about you but it's not so much that I don't want to age its just that I don't want the diseases that come with the age.

The replacement parts for women is a plus because I know I suffer from knee promblems I actually think i'm going to need that operation and it's nice to know they have a cure for that.

Hope for sick babies is so ccute if you ask me because I absolutely love babies and it breaks my heart to see a sick baby plus we wouldn't have other kids laughing at the sick ones because its not their fault their like that.

Hey I actually like that painkillers advancement because I get sideeffects when I take painkillers so that is a plus for me.

I like the Germ-Killer Coating because you will have less sick people for example i know people that work at hospitals, doctors offices and schools and they are constantly getting sick.

Thanks ladies! Excellent opinions!

Keep it coming folks . . .

I am very glad that they may have found a cure for smallpox. This is very good in case the terrorists try to use this against us.

I also like the article about the scorpion venom. It is very neat that they think that this will stop brain tumor growth. I have always wanted them to find a cure for brain tumors because I know that it is a very bad thing to have.

The research about the new procedure for people with asthma was interesting. My brother has asthma and I am glad that they have come up with something new to help those people.

I really do not think that chocolate can do what they say it can. I do not think it can help your heart, but maybe.

Spider's really? Thats really gross. I dont care how much they can help build your bones.

Finding a way to help with asthama is AMAZING because i know how it is to have asthma and let me tell you it SUCK!!!!

The microchip for meds might work but its totally weird so ummm...no!

Anti-aging pill really??

Thats all I have for now...

With the exception of Ruben (!) these folks have already read the blog from home, so they have had time to let the ideas work on them.

Please wait until Thursday to post, unless you've already read the blog / article / links. K? Thx!

P.S. Ruben? "What she said" won't get you any credit either! lol

A Virus to Kill Cancer?
that seems totally ridiculous.
Fighting cancer with a virus?
I see disaster. Like mega super crazy virus/cancer disease that brings dead people to life so the virus can spread more (zombies![worst case scenario btw])
But in all seriousness viruses evolve constantly so I can defiantly see a biological mistake in the making.
Available- Never

Buut. The scorpion venom sounds a little more realistic

I have a friend with diabetes, he always pricks his fingers and i know how much he hates it. i know he will like the once a day pill and the needle-free asthma like puffer.

fuentes, e - 1 said...

Yum Chocolate!!!! I already love chocolate and it makes me love it even more. I can't believe that chocolate can actually help prevent artery blockage. Who would of thought that something sweet could actually help your body. I thought chocolate was bad for you....way to go for scientists!!!

wallace, o-1 said...

Im really impressed with these new advancements and I believe they will be a big help for us later on in the future.

baeza, n - 1 said...

My favorite one is chocolet one! yummy!!

i don't like spiders, but i guess if its gonna help it can be for much use..spiders are creepy n have lots of legs yuky!!!

yancey-z-1 said...

i dont realy care for spiders but after reading that it mades me thank again about them and if they can help build bones then i am for it

baeza, n - 1 said...

i don't think it's a good idea to post that the smallpox stuff would help terrorists on the internet!! lol

juarez, a - 1 said...

The thing that surprises me the most is the scorpion sting becoming useful instead of deadly. Even do the venom is man made it still contains venom and it would be superrrrr cool if we got this medicine in the hospitals and stuff. Im not sure if you can actually get cured all the way but it helps you live longer, which to me is a plus any day

butler, m - 1 said...

i think that the microchip for meds would be AWESOME! i am always forgeting to take medicene or never wanting to take it! i think that if they can get it to work on humans it will be a medical breakthrough :)

santoyo, l - 1 said...

I was really interested in the sight saver article because i'm blind, but not that blind, just somewhat blind. I would like to take those two drugs to improve my vision beacuse wearing contact lenses is a hassel. I wonder if the drugs have some serious side effects because if they do well... I'll just wear contact lenses or think about Lasik.

vazquez, j - 1 said...

THAT IS SO AWESOME!!! Can you believe that people will be able to grow their boones back after it has been broken!! I mean its like if a football player fractured his leg in three places, he could just sit there for about 5 seconds and pick up where he left off.

When the terrorists do come over we have to be ready for the worst, then the end. But while we wait for D-day to come we have to take action now and stop any meds, arms, and info reaching them or we'll just let them walk all over us.

Scorpions are cool and its great that they can help us with our deformed americans who go to McDonalds EVERY day!!! If their poison can help us, then who knows what other kind of poison will help our many ailments (kids this does not mean go chug down a 5 liter mix of rat poison and anti-freeze).

TAKE THAT SOCIETY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wats up Mrs. L and Class
I think its kinda cool that the spider web can be helpful to the body...its like you can be a spiderman or women lol

I like that their trying to make good treatments for cancer because it do run in my family and I always help give donations to the Leukemia people.

I think its really great that chocalate can be healthy even thoe I dont really eat chocalate but its a lot of people who do so thats good

Overall I think these are great advances for the world...

~JS =) im da best

LOL @ Nora with the spider legs! And you would be surprised at how many military secrets are actually on the internets (in fact, we'll do that blog later in the year)!

Michael Butler . . . good luck to ya with that wi-fi med thingy. Hope it doesn't triple dose ya after you get back into a signal!

Luis . . . I have never understood how people poke those things in their eyes.

I really like the idea on the Blood Backup, no more worrieing about blood types and tranfusions. additionly the blood stand in has a long shelf life, and is disease free. But i think it would be wierd to have it done on me, especially with other people blood, i would rather have this in my veins T.T

Rodriguez,A-2 said...

i thought all of these new ideas but i thought the coolest was the one about cooling your blood to help flow..beacause like i figurre if your an athlete and you get that you probably wouldnt get hot as fast..and i thought the germ coating was also pretty cool becaause theres alot of germaphobes out there

anderson a-2 said...

me personally i like the idea about The Hemopurifier the thingy that removes viruses and toxins that would be so awsome (NO MORE FLU SHOTS) i cannot stand needles. and y is the pomegranate juice say available 3-5 years when you can go get a whole bottle of it at walmart now, ohh one more thing, the anti aging pill haha grandmothers everywhere can look and really feel younger, does this mean there will be no more old people???

vega, u - 2 said...

That microchip med thing is the first step to brainwashing. Who knows what they can do to you with that stuff?

The spider-fiber seems really cool. Pseudo-spidermen are coming, and their bones are stronger than yours.

Stopping brain tumors is a huge jump for scorpions. Aside from stinging innocent people (me including...stupid ninja scorpion stung me while I was sleeping)they can now help people. Hooray!

Good thing we have thems scientists to help people. And those scorpions better not get any ideas of creating some sort of super poison and give it to the scientists...

Lanham said...

Jose . . . I have a little news for ya. Chick-Fil-A and Subway are probably no better for you than MickeyDs. IJS.

Amayo . . . excellent question! Pomegranate juice is available RIGHT NOW at WallyWorld. LOL

Chito . . . good question about the HIV. The only thing I can think is that folks are living for a very long time now with HIV, so the mortality rate has to be longer than it would be with cancer.

duguay, n-4 said...

I think all these things are interesting but there are a few that I think would NOT be a god idea.
First off, I would NOT want a chip to be implanted into me that could administer doses of medicine on a timer e_e
someone could tamper with it and KILL me.
Also anything that would make humans live a lot longer is a horrible idea. There would be disastrous reprecussions regarding food shortage and overpopulation. People are supposed to DIE. 8)
anyway... yeah.
That's just my opinion.

Reyes, A-4 said...

interested in pill to help ward off diseases that come with aging. could be useful for our older citizens (Ms. Lanham..........JK!)

i thinks its a good ideal to take medicine for diabetes so nothing want go wrong with you.some of the other options we had to pick from i want agree with most of them.because most of them sounds stupid.

diverdi, d - 4 said...

hey hope this futhers the conversation

diverdi, d - 4 said...

Watch all of this stuff not even work right haha jk but the blood thingy was pretty cool if the stuff is like silver that they replace some of your blood with that would be cool to bleed out all this silver stuff make me feel even cooler than i alreday am which it pretty hard bc im freakin awesome uk haha.

vargas, k - 4 said...

I think its awesome that they have a cure for small pox, but I didn't know people still got that stuff.

The thing about using the spider silk, is gross but very interesting. I think it can benefit a lot of people.

I'm glad they have the better breast cancer screening because this could help several people everywhere.

The fighting the asthma by shoving the tube up your through your nose is pretty cool but some people still prefer the inhaler, like Blaire.

And that microchip thing is kinda weird, i wouldn't really look into that.

I guess thats cool that theres a pill for people to quit smoking because, that stuff is nasty and i guess it can save some lives.

Another one that interested me a lot was the one about prostrate cancer and drinking that pomegranate juice. That stuff taste really good and it can cure cancer!

pedroza, y - 4 said...

I agree with Nick, people ARE suppose to die. I find it interesting that they want to use diffrent crawling-animals to cure you when most if not all the time we are trying to get away from them.
The asthma treatment thing seems like it would be kind of painful but in the long run it would be worth it.

Ok seriously, I have asthama and it does suck, but I really wouldn't want to have a tube stuck down my throat. It seems painful and inhuman!
Even though I would love for my attacks to stop, I'd rater not be a guinea pig for something that hasn't been around long.
I mean does anybody know the complications that go along with this procedure? Or if it's 100% effective?
What if it only increases the ability for your airways to close! you CAN die from something like that, it's just too big a risk.

duguay, n-4 said...

lol true, it would be better if people have less kids.
Somehow I think people would keep having kids though ¬____¬

page, c - 4 said...

I think the whole idea about Spider's is just gross. I hate spiders.. They absoluetly scare me! So, I wouldn't let them use it on my bones.

On the other hand I really like the idea about the chocalate(:, even though dark chocalate is just nasty. . . Seems a little strange to me that it could help your heart though...?

And as far as Asthma is concerned I used to have it when I was little not so much now but it really sucks!

page, c - 4 said...

I agree Blair I do too.. But the thought of some tube being stuck down my throat does sound really painful and uncomfterable . Especially if you play sports seems like it would REALLY bother me.

carrillo, c - 4 said...

This virus is painfull but at the same time it has a cure. What if that bone surgery thing with the spiders made you turn into spider man and start shooting webs everywhere.

young, j - 4 said...

It's amazing what they can do with just about anything. If they keep discovering things like this, who knows, maybe they'll find a way too cure cancer using a fly's wing.
The only one that concerened me was the robotic surgeons, what if they like, malfunctioned and did something wrong or broke? Even though the recovery times and such are better, it seems kinda sketchy.

davis, s - 8 said...

1) I think it's SOO cool that they have finally found a treatment for broken bones. And with spider silk? That's CRAZY!
2).Okay so I already LOVE chocolate... So now it helps my arterys and heart? Umm helo... AMAZING!!!
3).Yay! Drug for the flu... No sick days for me (:
4). I don't have ashthma but it is soo GREAT that they finally get RELIEF! Woohoo (:

almeida, m - 5 said...

woooow i like the article that state that thermoplasty will help millions of people to figh asthma. that is a goog medice for those people who suffer asthma.

adams, i - 5 said...

its kool to know that there is another way to help with asthma. i know alot of kids who suffer from it, and i have family members that suffer too. they have to take alot of meds to control it. with this new 30min procedure it can help control it....

Diabetes- I have a form of it called Hypoglycemia so I know how it to prick your finger because I have to do it at least 4 times a day and it sucks. It makes your fingers sore.

I agree with Chase on the whole fighting cancer with a virus this. I personally dont think its safe!

The Germ Killer thing is amazing because one of my best friends is always getting sick so it would calm down the whole sickness thing.

Hope for Sick Babies is an amazing idea because there is so many sick kids/babies that need that kind of help. It upsets me for akkid to get made fun of because of a difference that he/she has!

hernandez, a - 5 said...

all this medical stuff is way cool, just dont expect me to get da flu shot or take any pills or inplant some microchip for meds cuz i jus dont do dat....what i like the most abt the article was all the cancer stuff and how they are finding ways to fight it and pervent it i also find the diabetes part interesting, i guess this caught my attention da most becuz my grandmother died of cancer and suffer a lot and my other grandmother died of diabetes and one of my aunts has it too....im all in for the pomegrante juice dat stuff is good and haha know i have a good reason to keep eating chocolate

johnson, d - 5 said...

omg! chocolate is da bomb! now if your in class and your eating chocolate you have a great explanation... your helping ward off artery-blocking, heart-attack-provoking blood clots...lol.oh yahh, and how the heck can spiders help build bones? you wont see me around any of them! And they needa hurry and get this smallpox vaccine out because the first time i hear about somebody getting smallpox im gonna be paranoid!

curry, b - 5 said...

Its cool that they are thinking of a way to make/build bones for people by using the silk fibers from spiders.

As a child i had asthma and their wasnt much they could do to control it but now they are creating a surgery that can control asthma problems through a electrically heated tube.

I agree with what Mastali, S said. If anyone, not just terriorists, got their hands on smallpox and they used it to harm people, the global outbreak of it would be catastrophic.

The Microchip Meds idea blew my mind. How easy and sufficient. It saves you time and it saves times for nurses and doctors. Instead of constantly taking your medicine everyday you alread have it inside you and it automatically administers the correct dosage.

Other things that intrigued me was the Anti-Aging Pill, the Cancer Curing Creature (Scorpion), Sight Saver, and A "Feel" for Robotic Surgery.

mejia, c - 5 said...

The spider building bones thing is pretty creepy.. But yet helpful to some people that actaully need something like that done to there bones.

The new way to fight asthma seems like a pretty good procedure for people that really have bad asthma. The part of the procedure thats scares me is the part where they insert a tube in through your mouth. Sounds pretty painful.

Micro chip for meds..sounds pretty beast! But what if something goes wrong with the chip and accidently gives you more doses than the usual number you take? Hmm, yeah..

Lanham said...

DeDe . . . you do NOT get to tell me you're making your arteries healthy when you're eating chocolate in my class! lolol

I was surprised about the smallpox too.

Christian . . . yeah I'm not such a big fan of the medchip thingy either.

vineyard, w - 5 said...

Regardless of how gross spiders and scorpions are, the medicinal values they offer are incredible. Besides, it's not like you have to be around them during treatment.

A strand of spider silk is several times stronger than a steel cable of the same size; people have been trying to use the silk to develop things like lightweight bulletproof vests. Using it to help regrow bones is pretty cool idea.

The scorpion venom being used to cure brain tumors is awesome; finding something that specialized for brain tumors out of nature is ingenious.

The company POM that makes pomegranate juice promotes healthy heart functioning and a lesser risk of prostate cancer in their ads and on their bottles. People have also done studies on the highly beneficial effects of regular chocolate and alcohol consumption.

I think the specialized cancer-fighting viruses idea is brilliant, but wasn't that the premise of the movie I Am Legend?

Lanham said...

Wilson . . . I believe you are correct about the I Am Legend thing.

Also? Somebody would have to PROMISE me that I wouldn't have to be around the spiders during treatment. IJS.

morris, j - 7 said...

That is just so awsome you can now eat chocaloate during class and have a healthy explanation for it i am gonna be having fun. About the spider silk that is just to awsome to think about you will have part of spider DNA in you....................you may even become a spider. HA HA HA HA HA HA. Spider boy spider boy does whatever a spider boy does.

reyna, j - 7 said...

So i broke my arm one time i would have loved to have been a test dummy for the spiders... NOT!! I cant stand having surgery. But I really think the spider web thing is a great idea.

albro, d - 7 said...

Up until now I just thought spiders were useless little creepers that God put on the earth as a pratical joke(hahahaha). But if I brake a bone in my body then
I can see how they would come in handy.

lanham2010-eramirez said...

the spider thing is really cool but I dont understand how the spider web can help you in building up your bones or bone.

ramirez, j - 7 said...

my opinion of using a scorpions stinger to cure brain tumor is pretty cool becuas i dont know but i think its smart to do things like that using a bug to save lifes

morgan, d - 7 said...

Just saying,
The smallpox thing is pretty cool, It's great that we might have a cure, but I just hope we don't even get to that point. And I have a feeling too many people wouldn't be able to get it.

I think it'd be pretty freaking cool to have spider bones. It'd be better if they made spider SKIN though. I don't know about you, but I'd do some crazy stuff with spider skin.

That microchip thing seems like a bad idea. If it malfunctions, you could end up with like a hundred doses of a potentially lethal medication. And that would totally suck.

murphey, l - 7 said...

The backup blood seems pretty cool. that way i never have to feel like i have to donate blood. those needles scare me. :(

Plus anyone can use it. no matter what type of blood you are. Yay to the people with the rare type of blood.

Overall this could be very useful.

soto, e - 7 said...

spiders can help you wow!!! i had no clue but still doesnt change the fact that they are SCARY!!!...but hey thats AWESOME!!!

wiggins, m - 7 said...

I think it is cool that we have a cure for smallpox just in case there is an outbreak. I also think it is wierd how monkeypox or cowpox could mutate and be as dangerous as smallpox.

nickson, n - 7 said...

I think using spider silk for anything is very creative. I found it strange that they can use it to help with repairing bones. Using it to help with body armor is very strange considering what we're talking about too. i would like to see what an artificial ligament made out of spider silk would look like.

delagarza, g - 7 said...

Imma start eatting more chocolate now. I pearsonlay (however you spell that word) think it wouldnt even work, and i dont like spiders in the first place so why would i want the inside me?

brasher, k - 7 said...

i like the bone builder...some of it does have to fall into cuz spider-man is a bada and that would b cool to have bones like that. but more then that having wed to help grow ur bone back.

and the med micro chip pill is very creative, becuz i thank meds for my bones and there like the size os my index toe(yeaz there big). and to have that to just give me the med without almost choking every time i take it would be pretty dang great.

Nano-Knitters for Nerves thing is something that could help a shoot load of ppl, from wat i know nerve cells thank alot longer to heal then 6 months to never. so for the nerves to be healed 75% in 6 months is pretty cools.

ponce, j - 7 said...

Using spiders silk to build bones sounds wayyy cool!!, it would be even better if you could rebuild the entire bone, like for people that have been in accidents that lose a leg or an arm.

brummett, a - 7 said...

1.(new way to fight asthma) - I like that they're trying to do stuff for people with asthma, but wouldn't that hurt, a big tube going through your mouth into your lungs and it's about 150 degrees hot.

2.(bone-builder) - I think they would have to enhance the spider silk and silica, because even though it can catch bugs, we could still walk right through it, and it would break, i wouldn't want my bones to break 50 million times

3.(back-up blood) - There is no way to reproduce blood scientifically, only your body can do that, and also it wouldn't have some of the vitamins and minerals your body needs, so if you used the fake blood you might have some side-effects amd some serious problems

4.(microchip meds) - I don't think a lot of people wouldn't want the microchip thingy, because it would probably hurt getting in, and if you needed to get it out because your medicine is hurting you in some way, then you would have to wait and get it removed in the hospital, but while your waiting then you would be suffering, and probably have some damaga

stinson, m - 8 said...

i very much agree with tha scorpions are useless but now they have purpose....... I like how something deadly like scorpion venom can cure something else its actually amazing.... WOOHOOO GO SPARKLY AMAZINGNESS =]

williams, j - 8 said...

the terrosits thing is right im glad we came up with somehting

and the microship thing is cool also and spider silk is awsome even though ms L dont like it

mastali, s-8 i agrea the micro chip thing is awsome

Its really cool that they have a cure for smallpox it can really help the kids that have it.

Its really sad to see kids that are hurt from a disease if i was a doctor i would do everything in power to live their life and thats from the bottom of my heart.

carter, j - 8 said...

I think that using spider silk to repair broken bones is not only good for humans, but for the spiders as well. If we eventually use silk from various spiders to fix broken bones, people may begin to look at spiders in a better light. I am also very interested in the anti-aging pill. If I took that, I could look as young I act most of the time. Let's hope that they invent something that reverses the aging process because I wouln't mind being a kid again so that I can buy action figures, water guns, and easter baskets with little to no problem.

linyard, t - 8 said...

The microchip meds thing is stupid. what if your chip malfunctions and you get all your meds at one time? you could die or just be really drugged up. The signal better have a 100% connection to my chip before i even think about using it.

hernandez, b - 8 said...

I think if terrorists got a hold of the smallpox, they'd open it, just to see what happens.

The idea of a microchip in your body despensing meds just seems way too grody.

If I thought a scorpion stabbing me and injecting it's venom into my blood would help, I'd probably be digging in my backyard as we speak.

Chocolate is healthy, but it's quite fattening. A poison for a poison just kinda, well. One poison tastes better. I'd rather be a fatty.

Robots are just awesome in general. Whether they're shooting lazors or cleaning my house, they're just downright epic. If a robot offered to surgerize me, I'd cut myself open right there.

I like my vision as much as the next guy, but if it begins to fade I'll deal with it. There's no way I'm sticking a frickin' needle into my EYE.

The word nano is just a plain awesome suffix. Using nanotechnology to repair damaged nerves is ABSOLUTELY brilliant.

Machines fixing humans. Out of all the articles, it's pretty obvious I'm hooked on the robot idea. Then again, with movies such as the Matrix and iRobot, machines seem to be destined to pwn mankind. I suppose as long as they help me in my lifetime, they can kill whoever the heck they want 300 years from now.

scoggins, l - 8 said...

Their solution for asthma seems alot worse than having asthma. Having a tube stuck down your throat that heats your lungs? Surely, there's a better way.

The hemopurifier sounds pretty useful, since they don't even have to know your disease to treat it, but I doubt many people will realize there is a problem, if the disease hasn't even spread beyond your bloodstream

murillo, j - 8 said...

Anti-aging pills? whats next? Immortality pills? It sounds very cool that you have to drink wine just to ward off diseases, but isn't that also dangerous?

scoggins, l - 8 said...

ben: nano is a prefix, fool

In my personal opinion its cheating to fight with biological warfair and if terrorist are gunna try and fight with disease then they are 1. cowards and will rely on something ese to do their work which makes them lazy and 2.There are thousands of people who read this probably where thinking "aw crap i don't wanna die" and went to go wash their hands. The terrorist have added to our OCD problem and will now cost us thousands of dollars in therapy. Thanks alot for being such lazy butts look what you've done.

MICRO CHIP MEDS: I agree with Brummet, people in general aren't likely to trust them. It would hurt to have them put in. Most people will not want surgery for something as simple as medication, which can be taken in pill form. And who would want a tiny robot in your body??? Unless a person were VERY used to the idea (for example: had grown up hearing about the technology) then it would most likely make them very uncomfortable. So while i think the idea is really smart, I don't think it will take off very well

Shayda and Susie I agreed with EVERYTHING you said (:
And I norsworthy from 5th period... If you had a broken bone and it wouldn't be fixed for years I'm sure you would put spider silk in you. There not going to put a live spider in you or anything....

Chantix seems like a great idea. All the smokers out there that supposedly "try to quit," seem to have more success with this drug. But then people might start dealing these under the tables and drug wars would breakout everywhere! lol...but cool idea for all the smokers out there, maybe they can find something better to spend their time doing besides blazing their lungs.

so the think about the spiders blows my mind ... i read an article acouple years ago that i forgot about until i read this. this other article said spider webs wound together could posibly be stronger than steel ... so when it talks about fixing bones, i think that may only be the start ... it may be possible for bones to be re-enforced ... make it harder to hurt/kill soldiers, police officers, or people in high government possitions ... just saying, i think its cool how something so simple in nature could help the human race in so many diff. ways

I think terrorist are too stoopid to use small pox

my opinion on the smallpox thing i thought that they already founf a cure for smallpox but it's good that they have found one.

as far as the microchip it can be a benent fit for elderly people that forget to take their medicine but my opinion is it can be very dangerous because what if it has a malfunction and actually gives you too much medicine. uh oh!!!!!!!!

matthews, j - 8 said...

Lawl! XD
I forget to take my vitamins everyday so I reeeally need this Mirochip. Really kind of silly, and shows how forgetful people really are, but awesome! :D

"The microchip for meds might work but its totally weird so ummm...no!" - norsworthy, i

Pfft. XD I tottaly agree that its weird, but hey! Sounds cool to try if it really does work.

Scorpions curing cancers.... Creepy!!! I know they just take the poison from the stingers and probably inject it into the brain tumors, but I just keep picturing that they put a yellow scorpion on your brain and let it just stab it with it's stinger. >.<;;;; Not cool!

Haha, wine for an anti-aging pill. I can picture people just getting drunk everday off of wine so they can just live longer. Hehe, people are too funneh.

Chocolate, heck yes!!!! I knew it wasn't all bad. ;D

I like how everyone is disagreeing with I Norsworthy it's kinda funny. Lol.

Ace . . . excellent thoughts! I'm also thinking the asthma thing might be painful. I wonder how many times you'd have to do that? Once? Every time you had an attack?

Jazmin . . . lol @ lazy terrorists.

Nick . . . good point about the bodyarmor.

Jade . . . i know, right? Bring on the chocolate!

Travis . . . I think I remember reading that too. Back around time for the presidential elections there was an article about Obama wearing a suit that had some amazing bulletproof fibers in it. They could do that with the silk!

Zach W . . . Chantix = great idea, but gives people nightmares. For real. Not that that's still not better for you than smoking!

Benjamin . . . lol @ your use of the word "grody." I so haven't heard that in years!

Jacob . . . depends on how much!

I like the bone builder spider-man othopedics silk, called silica. I think is cool that one day the new material could be used in growing and repairing human bones. Kinda like super glue for bones. lol :D

Hey I wanted to thank you guys for your blog comments. This has been a great week's discussion. Keep it coming!

Next week will be more medical. I think I want to take a look at prosthetic limbs and those medical advancements. I found a pretty cool video on TED.

Amado . . . I like the superglue analogy!

I'm glad to see the idea of dealing cancer with scopion venom, because my grandpa was killed by cancer last year. The doctor told us that his body was too weak to have a surgery...Actually, every time I see some news about research on cancer I feel those guys are great.

Hope we can defeat cancer in a few years.

The new way to fight asthma idea really caught my attention because I have asthma. It sucks. If something like that works then I would be one of the very first people in line...until I got to the part where they heat some tube inside you up to 150 degrees...that makes me a little uncompfortable. But maybe if my doctor explained further of why they do that I would understand better. I also wondered how some things would affect such a tool inside your body? Like are there certain things you can't eat and drink?

I just think it is pretty amazing that there is a desease called monkey pox, but yeah this is Dalton by the way.

This article is really cool but at the same time most of the things are freaky

Especially the one about the spider silk in bones....That jus flat out seems weird

I have a cousin with asthma and i am glad that they found a way to threat it but it also seems like there would be some side effects from all of the raidofrequency that they are going to put in the patient's neck

I love that were getting closer and closer to the time for mankind to be dominated by robots and have robot wars and epic lazor battles, but on a more serious note. I like that they figured out how to regrow bones and such by using spiders silk, its pretty darn creative and niffty, just imagin about 10 years from now, all the vagetables can probly get there limbs remade, and can walks again. Thats just a cool thought, but anyway i like that we found a cure for smallpox, even thought terrorists are to dumb/stupid to use it as a weapon of war. Everything else is pretty intresting but didnt really catch my thoughts, alright im done here adios amigos. (JUGAR)

Woah, regrowing bones with spider silk? That's just crazy.

I don't understand how they can come up with some the craziest things like, microchip medication and such, yet, they can't find cures for AIDS or Cancer? Just saying... hah.

I don't think I'd ever let a scorpion touch me, brain tumor or not, no way!

arnold, t - 7 said...

first of, spider silk for broken bones? i don't know if it's just me but that seems little risky but who knows.

I do however like the idea about the microship to help prevent memory loss because i definitely need one of those lol.

Scorpion venom to cure bain tumors? ehhh the only mental image I can see right now is a scorpion latched onto peoples brain as some sort of brain washing device xD

I think the new asthma technology is a great idea because I have asthma but I really wouldve needed that when I was younger and had asthma really, really bad.

A lot of these new things sound relly helpful to people who need it the most to help whatever problem they may have so hopefully they can work up some more ideas to help more and more people.

All i can say is the virus to kill cancer really reminds me of I am Legend. And viruses can change over time as well. So unless the change something to stop that from happening i really do not see it in the future.

Now the venom to cure people that really intrests me I guess we will have to see what happens in the coming decade.
