Having said all that, let's get on with this weeks blog.
I want to go to car technology. There's a lot of really good stuff in here, so we'll be on cars and their changing technology for several weeks.
This week I want to talk about the newest buzz where cars are concerned. Google has very recently announced that they are developing a car that will drive itself using video cameras, laser range finders and range sensors.
To which I say . . . !!!
I don't think I'm ready for this. I don't think I trust technology enough to give up control of my car. I don't think I trust technology enough to want to be on the road with a bunch of other people who have given up all their control as well.

I think this technology is really good and it would help lots of people like pregnant women and old people.
This would help old people because they might not know how to drive and if they want to go somewhere all they have to do is get in the car and go.
This would also help pregnant women because sometimes they are about to have their baby and there is no one around to take them to the hospital, and if they have this car all they have to do is get in it and go to the hospital.
This car is pretty cool! It has advantages and disadvantages.... one advantage is for like drunk drivers safely (for other ppl who are sober also)getting home, but a disadvantage would be like the car going crazy and killing someone.in my opinion, i would get in one just to try it out, but to actually buy one, no. i mean its ok for like an elder person but i aint that lazy enough to not wanna drive a car.
Wow I think its pretty cool that Google is thinking outside the box! Self driven car though? Its sounds kind of dangerous but at the same time pretty interesting...I probably would not get in a car that is self driven because I know I would be to scared!! This self driven car could be our future...
Umm a car that drives it self??? i don't know about that is it a good idea?? probly probly not. well the idea that you get to do waht ever whire you on a road trip is kinda cool.
I don't like the idea of still needing a drivers licence to drive a car that you are not even driving, you're practicly just sitting there as if you was sitting on a couch...
Even tho i think the car is kinda cool not so much tho 'cuz that could be dangerous...DANGEROUS 'cuz what if therez malfuction with the car while you're in the car!!!SCARY!!!!

`Thats pretty cool what google is trying to do to save people from less accidents but...THAT WAS MY IDEA!!! People have to stop snooping around my house because so far they have taken so many of my ideas and made them their own just because they have the money right now. ANYWAYS the cars i make and design will be 10 times better because of our future technology we will soon have. I do trust a car to drive on its own, only that it has the right sensors to do it.
I think the self drving car is a Wonderful Idea ! I could see it helping public transportation become more flexible and efficient. I also think it would reduce the rate of car crashes we have a year to.
bahaha i dont trust that automated car as far as i can throw it (which aint very far!) i think its great that technology is progressing like it is, but come on now self driving cars? i think they need to spend as much time as possible on this thing to reassure everyone that it can do what it was built to do. It would be great to keep (drunk drivers)or not very good teenage drivers off the road with one of these, but i see it as costing an arm and a leg.
Self Driving cars? it sounds like something in a movie. I guess we are actually moving to the future. I dont think im prepared for all this technology, i actually enjoy driving and i dont want to replace that. It would be cool do if you were running late and you had to eat, get dressed or do something else and you didnt have to drive and risk everybody else's life. At the same time what if the cars aka robots come alive and kill us all...It happens in movies lol.

A self driving car it sounds so cool like for real like who wouldn't want a car to drive for them when your traveling and get tired of driving but the real question is can you really trust a car with a mind of its own or somebody else on the road with one..technology is good but not perfect and every blue moon something always go wrong with technology so if you got that kinda trust in a car lets just say you don't have too much trust in anything..

a car that drives its self that is cool idea but if one of those cars came driving down the road it would make me turn the other way but if they are going to make the car drive then make it pump the gas to now that is realy cool
I really like the idea of the car, however i just dont think I trust technology enough to put my life in the hands of some self controlled care, so I'll wait on this one and see how it does in the years to come
i think this car is pretty cool but it would be even better if like we could drive it using a xbox controller or something that would be pretty neat but idk if i would ride in this particular car because computers start acting up and it would be bad if that happened with this car
i idea of self driving cars is OK with me. call me lazy but, i wouldent mind laying in the back seat sleeping while my car drive me to dallas or houston. its a good idea that could come in handy when you dnt feel good but yu have to go some where. and does this mean that i can text while my CAR is doin the driving???
Talk about a lazy country, most of the world still has to walk and we want our cars to drive for us.
Self driving cars now days!! what will we think of next? haha but seriously, this could help us out a lot. to safer car rides, and less wrecks. But there is still a long way to go for us to develop an automated car thats ready for the streets, and they would need to include a fail safe to where u can take instant control of the car in emergencies. I would deffinitely get one :D
I am not completely against this...but it does make me very nervous. I am a firm believer in the wonderful things that technology can do, but I am not a huge fan of giving up control...I have a hard enough time with my mom. I could never allow a computer to drive me from point a to point b. I think it is great that technology is progressing to this but personally I wish that we were focusing on curing cancer and other diseases, instead of having a robot car that could at any point malfunction and kill people instantly. I also think this could be a scam from the government, slowly taking away our independent control of our lives. I don't know that for sure, I could quite possibly be insane but if you really think about it, how much has the government already taken from us and still focus on taking from us.
WHY IS GOOGLE MAKING AN AUTOMATED CAR????? Why does a search engine company not stick to one thing? Im just confused. By the way Hi to all my Homies in Mrs. Lanhams class this year.

It might be dangerous though. there could be a lot of risks involved, especially because of how risky cars are.
This will be...awesom3!! A car that can drive itself! Now I can put my sister in the car and program it to crash into the lake.
This really could be useful to people who are unable to drive due to disabilities and can be useful for those super-busy mornings.
The car is amazing but I don't approve. I don't trust technology that much because something could go wrong and someone could get hurt. I don't like driving myself and this could be useful to me but I rather drive because I'm in control and I trust myself more than a car.
This great for anybody stuck behind an old person going really slow on the highway!!! Now even the old people can go fast lol
I think it would b fun to just fall asleep and let the car drive itself but u have to remember its still technology and sometimes techonology have glitches and malfunctions
i wouldnt trust the google car driving on it own, a glitch might occur and the car will go on rampage, and what if the man/woman inside cant control it?

I feel that this could be an good thing and a bad thing it would be useful for people that are drunk drivers they would have to control the car them selves so no one gets hurt
there is a flaw to everything and the glitch the system may have could be life dangering to the passengers or even the people around
and if the system got a virus how would you remove the virus or the cpu has a crash while the driver is sleep people common

Doesnt that completely destroy the point of driving?? This might as well be called "riding" from now on, that is, if google can make it work.
Regardless, the idea is pretty neat. it could be used to transport the car without a person in it, like if someone needs a car and cant get a ride, they can just get someone to send the car to them.
The only thing that would make this cooler, is if it had an automated defense system, but then again, maybe it could develop a mind of it's own... Automated Car Apocalypse O_O
That car is awesome because it drives by itself. Although I wonder what the person inside do just steer o wat? Maybe I'll find out more about it later.
i think its cool that they done made a car that drives by itself..but its also weird too because who would ever think of something like that.its just werid to know that a car can drive by itself without having to have somebody driveing.its also dangerous because something very bad can happen while the car is driving and someone is in there.what can you do?besides getting hurt because the car have started acting stupid.because bout time you try to do something abouit it you and somebosy else would of been done got hurt.but sides all the bad thing that can happen.i think its kinda cool to have a car like that.
I do not think this is a good idea. I think there will be too many wrecks. You cannot trust a computer to drive your car. There are too many things that can go wrong. The car will be very expensive too, and I don't think it would be possible for a normal person to purchase it.
this car is pretty good because it would help people that cant drive and for people that drive slow lol... and its good for college students because they dont have to pay for there paking and they can send it some were else and tell it to come back for you at the time you want it to come.
I think a car that drives itself is awsome!!Although I don't completetly trust technology enough, I mean what if it gets a virus and acclerates when there's people in front of it instead of stopping!! Like the toyota has been accused of doing, I think it would nice to be driven around bvecause I honestly I get tired of driving.
The car is cool. &nd for the people who have to do other things like talk on the phone and text or whatever it may be. I don't think I would trust it though. . . Especially lots of other people driving with it. . . Sounds traggic. If the gps or computer messes up then what?! What if it excellarates instead of breaking??? DANGEROUS.! Lol plus I would want to drive around anyway with me being a teenager, for the elderly &nd pregnant women yes. Good idea.
I think this car is stupid. We don't need to have cars driving for us. Driving a car is fun and it's part of our lifes. You can't trust heat sensors cause what if theres people around you and it accelerates? What if your in Alaska and its cold? I only trust Google when searching stuff in the internet. Nothing else.
Its kool how this car can work on it own, but it my opinion i wouldnt trust this technology at all.What if something was to go wrong with it then what then? But other than that its okay.
this is kind of scary but then i thought about how many bad drivers are already out there so then i think it would probly be alot safer haha
and this will change the insurance world so im going to make my own insurance company to cover this stuff and ima be a trillionare in this world :D
also you could get ur car when ur like 3 years old and tell it where u wanna go and it will take you and think about how the new gas stations would be for them atomatic haha

Well this car is amazing and it will change the future forever.
Less car wrecks, less stress, more possibilities, and good resource for people who cant or are not able to drive well.
Drunk drivers get home safly, and with out a ticket, people dont have to worry about old people driving, paralel parking, and really long trips that will tire you out of your mind...
But there could also be mishaps that could happen, like what if it turns into a transformer, or better yet, just catches a virus or malfunctions, it could be disasterous, good thing there is a manual overide though, and i doubt they will give our these cars with out giving it more and more tests.
ok soooo... my first concern when Mrs. L said that it was something like the GPS, was what if your GPS runs out of signal like way out in the country. would it just like go crazy or just stop on its own!!! After my momentary panic attack I read the article and it said "that the cars use video cameras, radar sensors and a laser range finder to virtually "see" other cars and the basic traffic flow." it was a small reassurance but still i wouldnt be able to just sit there and be taken everywere by a computer [it would be nice] but nerve racking..!
The idea is a good one, I have to admit. But there are a few issues. It uses video cameras, laser range finders and range sensors to navigate, which brings up a few questions. Would I know what roads are one way? How would it know to stop at signs or lights? Would it know how to yield to right-of-way? Does it drive defensively? Basically, does it have a human’s rationalization or intuition while driving? Another issue is, it can’t see around corners. So when there is a wall blocking its view, how would it react? Also, im assuming it also has a GPS installed to it relies on too. Every one has had a situation where their GPS has told them to turn off a bridge or drive through woods. So what would it do? Man this got me thinking. In the movie irobot cars had autopilot. What if the car is hacked driven off a cliff? There’s one more missing person with no explanation.
On the bright side an off road version can be constructed to map unexplored areas.
i think this is cool. it would be nice to have a car drive you around everywhere you wanna go. you can jus sit back relax, and enjoy the ride! LITERALLY!!!
I think that the technology is cool but then agin it is very scary because some people rely too much on technology so therefore we would have those CRAZY people that just got in their car and went to sleep, just relying on their car to get them from point a to point b. In all reality I dont think the world is ready for this kind of technology yet.
the idea of a car that drives itself is complete rubbish. i would never be such a pillock as to allow my car to drive for me. the scientists need to work on robots that will do the dishes and laundry instead of driving. besides, shifting gears and speeding down a highway is fun.. why would i let some computer drive for me and most likely go the actual speed limit!?
this is a really good idea, well for me. it is cuz u wont have to worry about been texting or talking that car will drive by himself to any place u want to.
I think that even though now we have the availability to have cars that drive themselves most people won't be open to this technology because they still can't wrap there minds around letting a car think for itself and drive. Humans like being in control and knowing that they can control their surroundings and for most people leaving their life in the hands of a car scares them. I love the technological advances that are shown here but i believe that this type of technological equipment is many years ahead of itself.

Although the idea of a riding in a self driven car is cool especially since it will allow disable people to move around more easily and not just them but also the average lazy person and it will also protect us from those reckless drivers, i personally would not want one not only because many things could go wrong like its software being hijacked by some mad man who wants to kidnap you but also because it will take the thrill of being able to drive and having all that control away...meaning speeding wont be as fun if you know a computer is keeping you safe

THiS iS TiGHT!!!...but i wouldnt trust it though, its just too riskyy! although its probably really helpful for the disabled people. i think they just need to keep working on it and working with it because something could go wrong and that wouldnt be too pretty, but other than that...its iiGHT!

What i think about the technology is that is more advence and easy to use and it quicker. It can help you find places or thing you need help on. People like the new technology better than the old one cause their was not a lot thing that could help them.
The car technology is cool cause its easy to use cause people do need to drive or need to know how to drive to use this car cause it can drive it self.
I'm skeptical about all of this. Even though Google is one of the most powerful and influential corporations out there who has given the human race the power to monitor the entire planet and access infinite amounts of digital information from a single computer, the slightly unexpected addition of a self-driving car to their world-changing line of technology comes with some problems. Giving a man-made device (robo-car) the responsibility to operate in a natural setting (roads and highways) full of uncontrollable, external obstacles has the potential to put every Google-car driver in danger. There's always some instance that the Google-car's programming wouldn't know how to respond to, like, say, a herd of deer or unattentive passerby getting in front of the car.
the car is awesome and i wish i can drive like now. i have some thoughts about the car that make me dont want to ride in it but it looks great.

I think this technology is pretty cool but still iffy for me cause im kinda afraid of cars like that ever since i have seen IROBOT how about a no to that i do not want to get deboed by mu own freaking car THINK ABOUT IT PPL LIVE OR DIE!!!!!!!!! JUST KIDDING ALL SMILES :)
This new car is very cool, i mean think of how many people die in wrecks every day, or drive a car drunk, this car could eliminate all of that! Now, i don't know how safe i would feel in a robot car, but i could probably get use to the idea. Hopefully they will continue their research, and i will feel more comfortable getting into one of these robot cars.
i would like to jump in front of one some day and see if it really works. i actually thought someone would eventually come up with a car that drives itself using sensors.
This whole self controlled car idea is way out of control and proportion. Google may be in control of this, but are the cars in control themselves? For example, You're drving down the road and the car just doesnt wanna go where you want to so it just changes the route on you. These cars could end up taking over the world OR the technology could advance far enough where terminators are made. This sounds a little fishy to me.
Technology is good but its not that good. Something could always go wrong. And with this car people's lives are endangered. I would be pretty upset if i was in san fran. and they were testing this car on the same road i was driving. It does help but there are alot of risks.

I think that a self driving car is awsome. I also think that this would cut down on the number of wrecks. So all ya'll people like me that like to text, guess what we can finally text while in the driver seat. The age of the Texters is here finally what i have been waiting for. HaHaHaHa. The car is awesome! I could beplayin video games or be on the laptop while driving and txting...the only problem is that you still have to get a drivers licens even though your not driving wich sucks but it could still help people so that there wont be anymore car accidents and stuff...or the cars can become so advanced that they transform ito robots and take over the world!!...eh maybe not.

i think the self driving car is bad to the frame of the car... u can sleep and the car still drives!!! if they can keep this driving cars by there self, by some time in the furture we will have TANKS THAT WILL BE ABLE TO DRIVE BY THERE SELFS AND TURN ON THE HUMANS AND DESTORY USE AND THE HUMANS THAT R STIL LEFT WILL MAKE A PEACE TRETTY AND INSLAVE US ALL!!!!
the car seems pretty awesome. i think i should get one cause ive tried to drive and i almost ran into this house.but i would be kinds of scared of getting one cause what if it like goes crazy,and stops working right. that would freak me out. and i would stop driving.
I think that this is cool because it can help out a lot of people that cant drive like people who have a suspended license that way if they get pull over they say they werent drivin. On the other hand if people are drunk they can get the car and get home safely without killing nobody.
I think the car is cool. It would be safe for some people who are bad drivers. More likely people will take advantage of it and think they can do anything while they are driving. Then something bad will happen.
So, I think I'd love an automated car. The biggest reason is that while I'm good at driving, I suck at parking, and missing red lights, and speeding, and pretty much everything that might put my life and the lives of others in danger. So, a car that lets me act stupid without also putting me behind the wheel is a great gift to humankind.
i don't think i would want a car that is self-driven. the is reason is because i wouldn't know if the car knows how fast the car in front of me or behind me is going. i'm just going to keep it simple and trust myself or some of my elders behind the wheel. i think it is a good idea but i'm just not feeling it like others are.

I believe that this is just yet another example of technology getting too big, too fast. Why can't we just go back to simpler times of old-fashioned cars that weren't self-driving and drive-in movie theaters? THAT would be awesome.
i think its a bad idea parents are untrusting when you drive now its a computer yeah some parents wont lets a kid touch stuff in a antiuqe store i dont think a car that is worth a million dollors is going to be good expessually me

Personally, I think that if anyone is going to use this kind of technology, that it should be to make chandeliers that can hang themselves up.
This is a wonderful idea, but the drivers who decide to invest in this sort of new technology have to realize the malfunctions that could possibly occur. I would be afraid of letting it drive itself, but let's say that something happens and I have to go back to manual driving and I am doing something completely different? That could be really dangerous for my life and the people surrounding me. It'd also help those who happen to constantly make mistakes whenever they drive and it could be a lot more safer, but if something goes wrong with the system and messes up, the driver just really needs to be prepared to take over, because if not, then it could probably result in something horrific.
Well, another step into the future, I guess... I knew something like this would be soon invented and yup it has!!!
It does sound pretty useless, but very helpful at the same time. It helps older people to drive longer.
It may take longer schooling to learn how to drive and learn all the things you would need to learn about the car to know how to control it.
Well, less accidents and able to send texts while it drives on its own, I'll buy it! :D
It's a pretty cool idea to have a car that drives itself, but what would it do if it were to go out of range of gps and didn't know where it was going... but if it can park better than daniel, I'd say it's worth having around
I think a car that drives itself would make me feel more comfortable about riding with certain people who "park like beasts". I also believe it would begin a situation much like irobot, where self driving cars = self driven into explosive death trap irobot manslaughter mach IV's. It would help us all be a little lazier though and, let's be honest, American's love bein lazy!
On a serious note, the success of drive by shootings and bank robberies would sky rocket. The industry would explode and several useless driver positions would be eliminated, allowing the honest businessmen involved not to have to cut the cash with a sleezy driver. So I see business as being good in the near future. Grab a career as a thug/criminal while the economy is on it's way.
Google search engine and now Google motor engine. Sounds ridiculous. Although a car driving itself is slightly neat, why own a car if YOU can't drive it? I think this idea is ridonkulous, but who am I to judge Google's creativity? Just sayin, if you see wreck after wreck with these new cars and you all wonder what went wrong, Google. Went. Wrong.
This car is pretty cool. i would totally love to have one but it will probably be to expensive. What about drunk driving cuz u woulndt be driving. i would totally take a nap while i was "driving". One day all the cars are gonna be like this and the accident percentage will decrease. I like what daniel said cuz he fo sho cant park :P
A self driving car sounds cool but something that runs off tech in this day and age can be hacked and have errors. The last thing i want is a car going insane at high speeds.
I think this is great for technology for taking a step on cars. I really don't trust those cars because what happens if something wrong happens and you need to stop the car? What if you drop your soda on the floor? Will it cause a malfunction in it? Other than that I really appreciate if it was 100% safe and tested.
this is coming up everywhere ... even at my church last night ... pretty much everyone i've talked to about this feels the same as me ... its a cool idea, but its kinda scary at the same time ... who knows what kinda of virus could effect the car, which may cause it to crash and people to die or something like that ... i can see it being a good thing for elder people who cant see very well anymore or people that are drunk or if a lady goes into labor etc ... but i just dont trust technology that much (i think its because i've watched I-ROBOT too many times) but i just dont trust it
Another bad thing I can foresee is this: what if the car develops a mind of its own and turns on its owner/driver? What then?
whem it comes to cars and driveing it kinda weird in general about. i personally hate to drive its annoying and it takes less time to just get up and wallk some where. dont get me wrong though im a pretty good driver only coz i have to be not because I enjoy it..... Back to the point. So when it comes to the cars that drive themselves. why would you do that cars are ment to be driven not to drive themselvres. i also think that since not everyone will be converted to the new onew at the same time then lets say this is the 1st time youve seen this and you totally freak out und crash. its a completely normal reaction for ppl to haf when you see an empty car. i personally want to stay away from them becayse i dont think thy will help. i think the whole reason we even made them is just to prove that we can not to help people. these designers arnt thinking about long term consequences.
i think this is a major step in technology as far as automobiles. it can be very helpful to many people because people try to multitask while driving and that equals putting other people and yourself in danger.i can reduce the number of accident and deaths.
Okay well first of all it is very cool that there are cars that drive themselves, but what if it like malfunctioned or something? I'm going to stick with having control of my own car and save texting and facebooking for later. So I'm not going to trust it.
i would love to find out where the technology came from. i definitely want to found out it about because it looks interesting and maybe upgrade my gaming design.
This is great! But i forsee some serious problems with it. We all know how horrible computers can be about viruses freezing or any other number of random computer problems. Usually this is no big deal, so we have to stay off facebook for a little while until our computer chills out and calms down. Or worst case senario, we send it in to the company to get fixed. But if the computer is running ur CAR and gets stuck or freezes up on the road.... bad things will happen. Also, they didn't have this problem in california but here in Texas we have deer. Deer jump across the road. These cars will jerk to a stop when their lazors and cameras pick up the deer in front of them. So what happens to the car behind? A human would swerve, and nothing would go wrong. But a computer would stop, causing a reck if someone was behind

Google is so awesome! I've been reading up on this for a few days now and this is really cool and a very interesting productive invention for society and something that seriously needs to be thought about.
In a bout 15yrs...ill b 30 that sounds cool that means people won't have to learn to drive.Also when we get old we can keep driving ourselves around without having to depend on anybody or having to put ourselves in that risk..But i Agree with Mrs.L i would just leave it all up to technology because it has its downfalls too..plus imagine if there's a car wreck who do you blame..technical issues??..insurance would be so high on these cars people will much rather keep driving themselves around..or what about a DWI??..you know there is lots of "what if's?" its crazy,but its not surprising because i seen it.What's next no animals???..lol jk
The idea of a car that drives itself seems like it would make our time management a little more easier to handle. If you needed to get to work but forgot to eat for example, you can now do that as your car will do all the driving. This would also eliminate drunk driving, speeding, and just bad driving in general.
I can honestly say that I feel it would be better to drive yourself. This "roboitc" car would not be able to think or react as you would. Instead of eliminating the driver, why not improve more on the way it is currently.
