Blog 5 - 10/4/10

Hola peeps! Thanks for logging in.

This week I want to do something that we will do several times throughout the year. I want to look at *sparkly* new technology. I have a favorite site for this:

http://www.yankodesign.com/

Yanko is about the DESIGN of technology. This will be the ONLY time when I don't mind you blogging on Tuesday, by the way.

Follow these instructions:

1. Go to Yanko.
2. Go to the bottom of the page and click on the link after the page numbers that says "Inspire Me." Ask your neighbor to help you find it if you can't.
3. Tell me which page you landed on. You may not use the first five pages.
4. Pick a product and tell me WHY you like it or how you think it could change our lives.

Here are a couple of entries for example:
Page 27. Wall Mounted Washer. This one is hard for me to believe. I'm not sure about what kind of job it would do. Also? It looks REALLY small. I wonder how many loads I would have to do in that to equal one real size load?!? Also on Page 27. I'm diggin' that watch without hands that just shows the color of the time. Who needs watch hands anyways?

This is a DISCUSSION. I want opinions with reasons!!! If you can't give me that much effort, then I can't give you enough effort to type a 100 in your grade book!

Talk to me . . .

i landed on page 389 and i found this article about a rollable mivrowave oven by Hyun Choi it is so neat looking! i think it could really change our lives a whole lot! if it works then it would be a real great invention because its more compact than a traditonal microwave which is what we are all about now a days right? making things work in a smaller space and more effecient.

Page 353. This new microsoft computer is awesome and it will change the way that we will later use technology later in our future. The microsoft surface distinguishes objects from a paintbrush to a cell phone when placed on the surface. This is cool because they say that this technology will also be available at restaurants, public hangouts, and hotels!! I can't wait to be able to interact with technology in a real-life perspective with its enhanced software. They plan on making the same thing for hallway mirrors and countertops.

patton, e - 1 said...

I landed on page 104. One of the articles i found was about broken mirrors, but they werent just cracked there was a design craked into it (like a fish or bird). Although this defeats the purpose of a mirror i think this is a really creative idea. I would deffiently buy one.

I landed on page 28 and i saw this article about a space and energy saving washing machine. I think this new technology could definetly make a change in our lives because today we all need to save as much energy and space as we can.It also looks better than the average washing machine.

Inspire me took me to a lot of good pages but I liked the never ending pencil on page 8 this is a continuous pencil I think this is great technology because I like using pencil that's really all I write with and other people that are like me would think this a very handy pencil.

JS . . . that never-ending pencil is SWEET!

I landed on page 20, Instantly i saw the Toilet seat scale! It was designed by Haikun Deng to see of you really do lose weight after you excrete fecal matter...you should test it out!

page 306. The WARDROM looks really sweet. Seriously, most of us hate putting our clothes back when we're in a hurry. So what's the first thing we do, throw it on the floor and we'll HOPEFULLY pick it up later. Most of the time they end up staying on the floor. So with the WARDOM, after a frantic morning involving clothes-dropping, there with be clothes-tossing. So the next time you leave the house in a rush, there will be clothes on your wall waiting for you when you get back

Page 265. A new coffee maker design caught my eye because it's made to make multiple cups of coffee at the same time and I am a coffee fiend. Which could help with several different events, when pressed for time, when overcrowded at work, when there's a study group or party this new invention could be helpful in so many ways.

page 18. the new braille stapler seems really affective for the blind, instead of having to cary the combersome braille board, you can cary this with you. it is light and able to be pocketed. now its easy for the blind to write quick notes. i also was interested in the no spokes bike, i dont know how it is advancing the disccusion, but i like it.

There's also contacts that can block images we don't want to see. That's pretty cool, but virtually useless, since we probably need to see everything e_e

I landed on page 349 and i found probably the best invention that someone came up with. Its the alarm clock rug. When the alarm goes off you literally have to stand up and stand on the rug to turn the alarm. This is what i need cause i know i just reach over and turn off the alarm and then go back to sleep and then wake up in a rush

i found this item on page 332 and its a toaster that you can write messages on. like, you right the message on this toaster thing and then when you toast your bread or whatever, the message is "toasted" on there. this is the coolest thing thats ever invented. it could change my life by letting me have a happy breakfast EVERYDAY. :)

Me and inspire me ended up on page 374. I really like the Music sofa invented by Giongkun Wuqiongkun. It has a built in Cd player and it's this huge chair with a squishy cushion made perfectly for falling asleep on. I would really like this cause I absolutely love to just chill and listen to my favorite music.

i love the table for foodies in page 23 because eveybody can get ther own food without passing it around.. evey body can reach what they want without bothering someone.. but you can change it buy making it bigger because all my family cant feet in it...

I landed on page 393 and found something called a Table of Trash. Since I want to be a chef, I thought this was a great invention. It is a regular table but one end of it is curved and goes directly into a trash can. SO, you could use the top as a cutting board and then in one swipe, let the trash fall into the can, instead of trying to scoop up vegetables and stuff and get them to the trash can without dropping them in the floor.

page 241, a bike lock that sprays purple liquid on possible theives. i can understand what theyre trying to get at but most theifs wouldnt care and/or would be prepared for something like that.

page 107, a folding keyboard could be pretty useful but since laptops already come with keyboards (or at least they should) it would be to understand what exactly they would be used for unless someone carries around a desktop pc, but who would do that?

"The skimmer"
Starting out half-submerged in water, the Skimmer, using the wing-in-ground effect, achieves enough lift at 60 km/h to break from the water and at 100 km/h reaches an elevation of 1.5 meters above sea level. At this point the rider shifts weight and uses the handlebars to alternate power to the two motors in order to steer.

that is awesome. its like a vehicle that you would see in a sci-fy movie. This is something i would look forward to buying if i had the $

Page 129: Its a "Block of Light!" I thought it was cool because it is random. Who would ever think of a light...thats a block...It even goes through this horribly long cooling process to avoid cracking. The article even goes to state "Even the matte bulb is sand-blasted for durability" OMG it comes with the light bulb included... As if a block of light isn't already totally random...they throw in random facts to make it "more interesting" Thats about it for that...

Page 140. Wow this article that i found talks about the airplane seats and the designer is Netta Shalgi. it is not just a seat its an airplane seat where you can feel comfortable. Everybody can seat in this not just in first class. this new seats are for everybody. In this seat you can adjust the seat as how evere you want. if u wanna sleep u press the the back botton. This airplane seats are so awesome and now everybody when they travel by airplane they can be sure that they will have a good journey.

So, I clicked the "Inspire me" button atleast 20 times before I found something interesting to me, it's on page 148 and the invention is called a Mint Light #5 You Only Live Once Lamp. Basically, it's in the shape of a noose and if you want to dim the lights, tighten it, and to make them brighter, loosen it. I think that's just crazy, and hilarious at the same time. I bet some Christian-soccer-moms would be outraged to see this! Haha.

on page 335, there is a "Music Vortex- Water Speaker" that i think is really cool. what is does is, it stabilizes the vibration from the music while allowing you to turn it up so that the music stays clear, all while showing the water in it ripple. that is pretty legit.. i'm just sayin..

Page 197. Whisky Cyon Phone. Inspired by whisky (isn't it spelled whiskey?) of all things, this fully touch-screen phone changes its whiskey-ish color from a light amber color to a rich brown depending on how far away a person is calling you from. The whiskey color spectrum on the phone is great and all, but shouldn't you already know where a person lives when you're talking to them over the phone? It's cool for your now-brown phone to show that someone's calling you from New York, but it's relatively pointless if you already know they live far away from you in New York.

on page 286 there was a hanging chair...you can hang it up in places like yout closet. thats really smart because it would be out of the way and it wouldnt take up that much space. i would of never thought of it!!:)♥

I've ended up on page 148 where they have a charger that you just place up to three chargable items on the pad and it charges them, no wires no hassle of plugging in the charger or finding the right one. I've seen somthing just like it at bestbuy and now i think i might invest in one, it would be even better if they had them for cars.

morgan, d - 7 said...

On page 174, there's a small bit about reusing our sink water for toilets. This makes a lot of sense to me, seeing as how you really don't need to be drinking your toilet water anyway, so there's not much of a point in having it clean. I do feel bad for people who get swirlies if this were to be implemented. That'd make it just a little bit more humiliating for them, not to mention unsanitary.

I read about like when a car is broke down on the side of rode. They asked me if I would like a holographic warning. And think it would be really cool just cause its a hologram. But it probly would be a big destraction and cause a lot of wrecks.

inspire me took me to page 46. its some kind of misting handwashing system by christian sugiharto. the one on the website is an wheelchair misting handwashing system. i don't really like this because it only wash your hands with an shotglass of water. i don't think that's enough water to wash my hands with. its like you filling a shotglass with water and pour it on your hands, but it is a unique way of trying to wash hands differently. well thats all MRS.L !

Magical page 308. I had to decide just which idea seemed more sparkly, a PC disguised as a napkin used for group collaborations or a PC disguised as a lamp. I decided that the LamPC (Clever eh?) would be better, considering I wouldn't be tempted to wipe Cheeto and Chocolate milk off of my fingers with it. You pull a cord and it displays one of four faces - weather, news, email, music player etc. The best part? Four people can use it at one time. I imagine four people hoarding around a lamp is an oddity but, lets be honest. Who doesnt want to have this conversation:
"Hey billy, you see what Mary commented on Alberto's status?"
"Naw BroHAM. I'll go check my lamp real quick."
"Brosef, Lamp?"
"Broski, Lamp."
"Broman..for real?"
"Brodinison, You know it."
"I wish I could use a lamp to check my facebook Broberto."
"Brofredo, cmon. We'll use it together.
Not exactly the way it would go but, I'm excited.

Page 127. One thing that amazed me was the All-In-One Credit Card. It's basically a credit card that has a slot of space for memory and once you get it, you put it in for a while and once it expires, just change the memory so you don't have to throw it away. It will change the world because it will not only broaden the technology, but it will also save the enviroment from disposing plastic constantly. Although, the only disadvantage is what if you loose it? That's the only bad thing.

A nice nifty crystal covers up the webcam lens when at use. I'd buy these in a heartbeat. Lawl.

pg. 122. Disposable papaer laptops. When evr I carry around my laptop the 1st thing that i notice and quite frankly find annoying as heck is that its so big and bulky and it gets in the way i dont even wanna talk about droping the thing then its game over. I saw the disposable and i thought that it would help with the weight issue and not blow awway with the wind. Come on ppl don't lie and never say that you havent had one of those days where your in a realy crowde place and you gotta carry something like that nearly pooping your pants because you almost dropped it. Its just realy cool. The next thing that came to me was that......we it would be a waste to just throw it away. computers take a lot of work and i think that they should honestly just go all the way and litke apple just try and have a permanent eco laptop that people can use. Since its made out of paper i guess when it braks that youd recycle it......

Page 135 - I found a pair of shoes called fireboots (created for firefighters) which make an illuminating footprint on the floor of a room, leaving a trail of the user. Basically, if you were to get trapped/lost, the crew would be able to trace your steps to your position. To avoid confusion, I guess they could assign different colors for each person so they know which footprints to follow.
Seeing as these boots could be used in numerous instances and jobs instead of just firefighting, a lot of lives could be saved. Great idea

I decided to talk about the AV Design Forte that is on page 392 which is this awesome, futuristic TRON looking car decided by Andrew Varnish. This is without a doubt Batman's new Batmobile because only Batman (the best super-hero in the world) drives legit vehicles to kick bad guy booty. This car is fueled by a bio-fueled V8, has LED headlights and check this out, it has cameras built on each side of the car. Although this is a nice piece of transportation it probably cost over 9000 bitrillion dollars. The design of the car reminds me of a vehicle in a TRON type universe or maybe even something Speed Racer would race against in his Mach 5. This car is still awesome no matter what and I would gladly test drive it any time of day.

page 10 Nintendo 3DS With Huge Screens! its so awesome to have one. I really wish I had that handheld video game in my hands. The grapghics are way cool. Its design is way better than a PSP or iPhone. Too bad we live in America while Japan enjoys the future technology.

I landed on the page 10,and my favorite one is the continuous pencil.it's because I think there is something wrong with the designer's brain. People in China has already have solution to solve the pencil problem when my mum was in high school-just add a piece of tube at the end of pencil, very simple.I don't know why the designer make it that complicated. Well there are always some designers who always do useless work.

http://www.yankodesign.com/2008/03/26/egg-peeling-skills-wanted/ Hey hey hey! It's Katy M back in the saddle. How are all the students this year? Thought I'd come in now and again with random things. Now this little light idea is kind of cool. If you can peel it in any manner then you could get some neat customfied artistic lighting! http://www.yankodesign.com/2010/06/14/robot-cyclops-is-friendly/ And look at this cute lil' guy!Been worked on for years and was at the DMY International Design Festival Berlin. I'd love to see this in person.

Page 154. Having a place where you can charge your phone, ipods, and other devices in one place keeps things tidy and organized. This is exactly what Refresh Charging Station does. This station can charge at least 3 devices at once, depending on how big they are, and as long as it can be connected to a USB, then your good to go. It comes in three colors: white, black, and pink.

I could not find the page number for the "To Shave All Areas" device, but I am still enthralled by it nonetheless.

Natural Tree Chair
this chair is so cool. you can sit on a tree. Yeah you could just go out side and sit on a tree but on this chair you can sit on it without getting your clothes dirty. how awesome is that. the three is growing from the leggs on the chair and you can seee it growing because of the see through glass.
