Howdy Peeps!

Go here and read this, then we'll watch a video.

http://www.gizmag.com/lexus-unveils-driving-simulator/16630/

Lexus has long been known for innovation. They blew the minds of the automotive industry when they introduced this driving simulator. It does some really cool, over-the-top stuff.

Just a word of warning: Some of you have been skating with not reading when I ask you to. That is coming to an end. In the future if you answer a question in a manner that shows your ignorance because you didn't read the article, you will get a zero. ALWAYS read my words and the words that I've sent you to read.

Also? As I said in the VERY FIRST BLOG POST this is not a social forum. Holla at your peeps on your own Facebook, Twitter, etc. or YOU will ALSO get a zero for the week.

For this week's credit, tell me one very specific thing that you like about this simulator. BE SPECIFIC. "It's cool" is not gonna get it folks.

Talk to me . . .

I like that people are constantly trying to make things that will prevent accidents. I really like that they are putting all the things that make accidents happen like texting, and navigation to where its hands free..SAFETY FIRST!

I really like the way the simulator can adjust to mimic less than ideal conditions like poor visibility and electronic distractions. If the simulator could only provide perfect driving conditions it would not be very useful, since accidents don't occur when everything's perfect.

Wow a football field that is amazing it probably took them a while to make that electronic! Now I think that is amazing I wish I was in there it looks fun to be in. I wonder how long it took them to create something like that because they had to do test and other stuff before they can put a person in there.

I NEED TO FIND OUT WHERE THAT COMPANY IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is the most amazing thing ive ever seen with a car. I would rather drive in that simulator than a real car. First because no cops, no registration or anything. But in all they are studying to make the road safer with their cars, and that is a good thing. TUTT-1

I find it interesting that a car company would test a wide range of people to gain information about how man's best friend, the car, actually works.
I love that car tech mixes with science to create a real looking virtual driving environment that can gather all data necessary to create the right car for all purposes like safety, speed, comfortabilty, and things like that.

I like how the simulator can catch people driving poorly. The idea that there is something that can alert text messaging and varrious other distractions that sometimes drivers witness or actually do. I do think that this will help prevent poor driving tactics but it really at the end depends on the driver and their choice to drive safely. On the other hand I do feel the new technology will give a majority of drivers a reason to beaware of their driving skills.

I like how it has the 360 view and it gives different traffic movements. I also like how they use electronic distractions like texts or navigation. They wouldn't be designing a good car if they weren't testing all the distractions and causes of accidents.

The three-axis strut-hexapod mounting system is what reall ysuporised me the most of this invention. The way it moves the pod where the Lexus car is set in is an incrediple advantage in the reseach of driver safty. Is mind blowing that you actually move with the directions you stear the car. I just wonder if it simulates bad car crashes? A fliped car?

The 360 degree view by far makes this the most advanced simulator I have ever seen. The few I have come across remind me of the old arcade racing games where all you have to worry about is what is in front of you. Driving however is not 2 dimensional and factors behind the vehicle need to be taken into account.

The fact that you have a 360 degree view and that you can look out every window and mirror and see "road" is very interesting. Also that it has a a speed of 186 mph and the ability to do 330 degree turns i really like. -emily 4th

One of the specific features i like about the Lexus driving smulator is that it has the interactive 360-degree feature wich is the only one. I tought it wasnt that cool until the video showed how an actual Lexus was in the Simulator.

I simply like the fact that there's an actual car inside the pod. It kind of suprised me, because it didn't look all that big at first. It's not a stripped down version of the car (except for the wheels), it is practically fully functioning. This will give more realistic results in tests. Plus, it looks like a lot of fun. Who doesn't want to blaze through town at a hundred and twenty mph without any risk of actually crashing and incinerating yourself? (Plusplus, I like how the article used 'fore' and 'aft'... Just quirky)

I think its a very good idea to let soon to be drivers, practice driving on the simulator. That way when you get on the actual road you wont be brand new to it, you will feel somewhat experienced. i find the ability of the pod to turn and simulate speeds intresting. youd be able to get a much higher grasp on what happens during accidents so youd be able to design a car to suit all the diffrent type of dangers . maybe it would be better if it could turn a 360 degree angle.

"By allowing test drivers to safely experience various sketchy driving scenarios, the company hopes to learn more about driver behaviors and reaction times before accidents, then incorporate those findings into new active safety features in their cars."
This is a splendid thing to have so that we can make futuristic predictions as to why car accidents happen. If the studies are published we may see a decrease in car crash results. This would be a fantastic improvement to society because we would not need to grieve over car accidents any longer.

I really like how it can simulate so many different scenarios like low visibility, talking navigation systems and other kinds of distractions both inside and outside the vehicle. It makes the simulation much more accurate since most people don't drive without anything going on in the car plus it's a very smart move for Lexus to use average drivers under diverse personal conditions, such as sleep deprived, not professwional test drivers since professionals aren't going to drive the same as Joe Blow.

Ok so i think that the fact that there is an actually car in the simulator is awesome. Then there is the 360 view of your suroundings so you can actualy look in your mirrors and see behind you. That is an amazing break through for simulators, the only thing better is to go out and actualy drive a car around.

The fact that they went and did research on how to make a simulator is amazing enought. But the thing that i loiked most about it, is the dome with the car.
the fact that the person that is doing the test is in an acyual car and can see all the way around them(not just on a television screen or projector)is an all new playing ground for auto motive retailers.
Testers are now getting a full experience with this car instead of a wheel, some pedals, and a gaming chair.
This also shows that Lexus whats to get into our heads as well by getting people off the street instead of their own workers to critique on these vehicles.

I really like how there's a 360 view and it has realistic audio. It makes for very solid test results when it comes to finding out what could possibly distract people the most while they're driving and lead to ideas of how to best avoid accidents caused by said distractions. Like with the drowsy driver test they could try different alert systems to make sure the driver stays awake without actually putting anyone in danger.

I like how they have a 360 degree view that allows you to see everything. Driving is not only by what you see in front so the 360 degree view helps you see what's on the side and what's behind it so it's a good idea that they have that so we can actually see everything around us while driving.

What impressed me the most about the driving simulator was the panoramic view and the sheer size of the whole setup. I was a little curious though to know if the whole thing was panoramic, and if so how do the drivers get into the dome? Is the door a screen too?

I really liked that they just used regular people and put them in regular situations. They weren't doing any crazy things to the simulator, just everday problems. Like a bad driver, or a distarction, or a blind spot. We need to test extreme situations too, but more common issues need to be tested more often.

The hexapod underneath the simulator is very impressive because it can really recreate the feeling of movement on a street. I think that it is amazing that the simulated speeds can reach 180 mph while the pod doesn't move that fast. The design of the overall simulator is so sleek; it makes it look extremely trustworthy. I didn't even know that this type of thing existed, but I'm glad it does.

That's kind of cool that you don't have accidents testing the car. The fact that it really moves and has a kind of like real world outside the windows. It's interesting because it could help with reducing accidents. It could also help us learn about the controls of the car without crashing into something. The size of the field is a football field which gives you more space to drive and test, so that way you don't just drive back and forth and turn sometimes.

The size of a football field is extreme but also i thought that the dome itself was what you got into, not that there was a car inside of it. It is a lot bigger than what i thought it was. The way that it recreates a 360 digital world around the car and everything can recreate real life feel of stopping, speeding up, turning, etc. is all just extremely advanced and new from what other places do.
