Blog 17 - February 3, 2013

Hola Peeps! Thanks for logging in!

Hey let's do some medical technology!

Here's a really cool article I found on CNet. For this week, scroll down through some up and coming medical technology, pick a product and give us an opinion AND a fact.

Read Tuesday, post Thursday.

Remember, to receive credit you have to give us an opinion AND cite a fact. As always, you can do some internet research and see if the product turns up anywhere else. If you get a hit please post the link.

i really think that the brain app is cool because it allows you to take a look at all nine layers of the brain in 3D so that you can see how it works and learn more about it in ways you couldn't have before.

I think that the hair clip inspired device is pretty cool. It's a medical clamp that can stop traumatic wound bleeding in a matter of seconds, that's helpful becuse it can keep you from bleeding too much

I like the itclamp. it clamps down on skin to hold togather a wound to stop bleeding. i like this because alot of people die from traumatic bleeding each year and this would lower those numbers.

I think that the brain implant that allowed a paralyzed woman to opperate a machanical arm is amazing! This technology works by interpreting brain signals to guide the robot arm. This concept has endless potential and can help tons of people.

I think that The iSpO2 is a great idea comes with a sensor that you slip on to your ring finger for immediate oxygen, pulse rate, and perfusion index readings i like it it alot

I think that the new alarm system that was installed in hospitals in scotland, can really help on the effort to stop people from smoking on places where signs of no-smoking are placed.

I really like the Medisana ThermoDock. I think it is very useful and efficient, because it can take the temperature of anything. it uses infrared to detect temperature.

I really think the Microfluidic chip is a cool thing. If everyone used these, we could catch the flu in it's early stages and it would prevent people from spreading it so much.

I believe that the iSpO2 is a very useful piece of technology. It makes on the spot pulse readings. I believe that it will be used more in the near future.

i chose the brain implants that allowed the lady who was paralyzed to move a robotic arm. that is something i think is very useful. and the arm has seven axis of movement so it can move well.

I picked the wound clamp. I can be used in places where a turnicate can not. I think it would be useful, but a turnicate can be made out of virtually anything. This clamp is $65 dollars, therefore people are less likely to buy it.

The BIC allows quadriplegic people to be able to move things with a robot arm, since they can't move things on their own. Having the surgery to implant a new brain has made it possible for the people who can not move on their own, which helps them attempt to live a portion of a normal life again.

I think the hair clip inspired device is very useful and unique. It can stop any major bleeding in seconds. Filips' firm reports that its aim is to allow medics, soldiers, and first responders to better treat three of the most preventable causes of trauma deaths. my opinion on the pocket brain app is that its really neat i don not know much about my brain, but with this app i could see the brain in my head 3d even though its not my brain, its similar and i could see how it would work.it has a 3 dimensional rotating nine layers of the brain, and it does not need 3g or wifi to be able to explore your brain.

I think the instant pulse reading with the iPhone is extremely handy for travel nurses so they don't have to carry around a bunch of tools, it's just on their phone. I also think that the clamp that stops truamatic bleeding looks like a really bad idea.

So this mind controlled robot arm is pretty cool! In a year she was able to manipulate the arm to where she could pick up a chocolate bar and eat it. That is simply mind boggling! What it does is send brain signals to the robot arm that makes it move like a regular arm would. With a little practice he person can have full control!

Now be honest I know im not the only one thinking this... mind control! This is one small step for people towards being and to control other peoples minds.... O.o or maybe the government is already doing that and this is based on the technology that they have already been using!... dang it now I'm paranoid.

I think the robot arm is straight up swag. It can help people with quadriplegia in a way that is over the top swag. They can use their brain to control an arm which will help them become more mobile in a way. It took the woman less than a year to seize a chocolate bar, and that is just overly swag. Fin.

I think the hair clip design is a neat idea. It's a clam that can stop traumatic wound bleeding in seconds. This would be very important to people in the military, when there arent any doctors around. I feel like it would give people a little, extended life time before they bleed out.

i would consider the BCI brain implant that allows the user to manipulate a robotic arm (or mechanic part with ease). It was tested out on a lady who lost the ability to move, but now feels like she has regained power again. This medical advancement will truly inspire great developments, as this is just a prototype.

I really liked this peice of technology because it reminded me of when I was in middle school our robotics science class. I like the robotic arm. The electrodes pick up neurons firing to activate arm movement. The reason i like it is because it shows that we are that much closer to being able to repair severed body parts. Soon we will be able to like on Star Wars and link robotic body parts to our nervous system. This will allow certain people with disabilities to be able to live normal lives.

I think that thermo dock dr. iphone is cool because you can just point it at something and it will read the tempature. like i hate when i think i have a fever and my mom isnt around to feel my forehead but now i dont need her to be able to find out if i have a temp. or it can be used in a doctors office so the nurses dont have to carry around that big thing. and since its already on like the ipad they probably have a program where you can go ahead and type all the other information that the nurses take like height weight. so now all this info is easier to look at and enter

It doesn't seem to me that the ThermoDoc would be very accurate. I feel like there would be lots of external factors that would obscure accurate temperature readings of a dog, your forehead, or Ipad 3 through infared. Seems to me that it would be too good to be true.

I love the hair clip inspired ITclamp. It is a clamp that can instantly stop traumatic bleeding and help to heal wounds. It can help reduce death rates caused by bleeding, consequences of collapsed lungs and airway obstructions. I love this because I feel like it will be an easy and cleaner to heal wounds this way. Also, I feel like it will be useful for soldiers and people serving our country that get hurt easily.
