Blog 21 2/13/12

Hola peeps! Thanks for logging in.

This week I want to do something that we will do several times throughout the year. I want to look at *sparkly* new technology. I have a favorite site for this:

http://www.yankodesign.com/

Yanko is about the DESIGN of technology. Please feel free to blog on Tuesday and to participate more than once.

Follow these instructions:

1. Go to Yanko.
2. Go to the bottom of the page and click on the link after the page numbers that says "Inspire Me." Ask your neighbor to help you find it if you can't.
3. Tell me which page you landed on. You may not use the first five pages.
4. Pick a product and tell me WHY you like it or how you think it could change our lives.

This is a DISCUSSION. I want opinions with reasons!!! If you can't give me that much effort, then I can't give you enough effort to type a 100 in your grade book!

P.S. You will occasionally find something that is adult-oriented / not particularly school appropriate. Pick another page and keep moving.

Talk to me . . .

This little robot or one like it could be seen in the near future and would be a great help for people doing dangerous jobs. It is designed to continue functioning even if one of it's limbs or head is destroyed. The limb can then later be replaced. This gives the robot some durability.

This lamp looks like dew on tiny blades of grass. As the description brings out, it really looks like a macro photograph come to life (and enlarged x500). As a fan of macro photography, I am willing to overlook its weirdness and put about 20 of them in my house so I can pretend I am a tiny tiny creature adventuring in a metal grass forest!
... or, you know, not. Still cool though.

Time Your Power

Its a power outlet that shuts off after the amount you set it to. So you cant over charge something and blow the battery. I dont really think it can change our lives, but for the people who like to be in control of everything this would be a great thing for them to invest in.

this is boat houses, literlly houses that are meant for people who live on the water. These houses are two stories high and float around on the water. I think it would be so cool to go live in a boat house for the summer or something. Ples there is like boat house communities, where a bunch of boat houses are in the same area and kind of make up a neighborhood.

The Easy Alarm is a cool idea because it's a different kind of alarm clock. The idea that you can drag the LED light to the correct time where you want to have your alarm set is cool and i think the lights on it would make you actually WANT to get up in the mornings.

On page 444 they talk about lightbulbs and how they can be transferrable through liquid. This would mean that instead of buying lightbulbs over and over again after they are broken, you could transfer light through a liquid instead. This would help numerous trips to Lowe's...Or help them if they sell them...

Pg. 561

The Xposed bag seems like a cool bag. Although it does expose your contents, it kind of makes life easier when it comes to bag checking at airports, cruise lines, train stations, etc. It doesn't even need to be used everyday. It might just be necessary on those you do travel. Just don't pack anything you wouldn't want to be seen...

Man this "draw with the lights" thing is pretty cool. It seems to be a very neat way to customize a room. And it also inspires pratical uses as well; have an idea? Write it down...ON YOUR CEILING. The only issue I see here is the instalation of the LED ceiling. THat just seems kinda costly and inconvenient.

Page 146: Giving Tree

I love this product. The sleek and modern design is so appealing. Plus, pairing technology with nature themes is very trendy right now, and I'm a big fan of this trend. I've seen the boring charge kiosks in airports and I think this would be a great change. My only concern is that there would need to be several types of chargers, and several of each: the model only has three, and they are all for iPhones. The tree would end up being pretty big. This model would work better in a home. Maybe each terminal could have several trees, each with a different type of charger? I also like the little light strip that shows the number of connections. This makes it easy to spot a full tree from far away, which would be useful in a large, crowded place like an airport terminal.

Page 334 http://www.yankodesign.com/2009/08/25/coolest-water-fountain-ever/ I think that this is so cool because it is a public water fountain that get's is water from rain and then shoots it back up through a filter when someone wants it. This way, cheap, clean water can be made readily available to the public.

Well I landed on page 146 and the 1 liter limited faucet I think is pretty legit. On average we spend about 6 liters to wash hands when we really only use about 1 liter of that 6. What this faucet does only allows you to use 1 liter and then you must turn it off so it will fill back up eventually. It is made for exactly what is present, to save and conserve water and after this freakin hot summer and seeing how low the lake was, I feel like we really could had used these.

I like this design, because it is different from what is out now. In case of an emergency it could change its shape. It also can change its pattern..For example, it could change to a pattern of a peacock. I think if people had this car it would save a little bit of money, because if you bump into another car; your car would renew itself and you wouldn’t have to pay to get it fixed..It sort of makes me think of transformers

This is an awsome concept and something that has the potential to change the world. Unfortunatly, the fact remains that Haiti could never afford something like this and, dispite what the author of the article may want to think, Haiti does still look like a disaster zone. Sorry 'bout cha Haiti.
